Drawing with pastels on collage / 28.7 x 19.5 cm / 28.3 x 19.4 cm
This piece emphasizes the shape of the furniture seen in the collage with black color to express the importance of those elements and outlining their silhouette. Little parts of some elements are highlighted with bright colors to make the piece feel less dark and to evoke a warm feeling. The piece highlights the importance of the little things and the feelings that these evoke.
Drawing with pastels on collage / 28.5 x 19.7 cm / 20.0 x 28.1 cm / 28.5 x 19.4 cm
These collection of pieces represent the many changes that an interior can have and how they all evoke different feelings. It also represents the changes a person goes through throughout their life and shape them into the person they are now.
Drawing with pastels on collage / 28.4 x 19.6 cm / 29.1 x 20.3 cm
These two pieces mirror each other if looked closely which intends to represent the old and new versions of an interior by comparing it to each other. The piece above shows more colors making the piece feel alive and the lines feel softer while the colors from the one below feels dark and lifeless and the lines seem pretty harsh. It represents the importance and encouragement of change despite how scary it might be. In interiors, change is good and always aims to feel better and that is what this piece represents.
Drawing with pastels / 38.4 x 27.3 cm
This piece is a combination of all the features that can be found in an interior and the intention was to represent everything coming together through the lines that are drawn across the painting. It represents how, in interiors, every aspect of a room comes together to create a sense of familiarity.
Digital print on canvas / 40 x 30 cm
Autumn is considered one of the most beautiful seasons of the year and this piece aims to represent just that. The orange-brownish background represents the sunset reflecting on a wall when the sun looks bright orange and it feels warm and suddenly, every hard situation you may find yourself in feels less complicated and hope fills your mind that everything will be okay and that you will become a better version of yourself after overcoming the situation.
This piece aims to show the positive side of personal struggles.
Digital print on canvas / 20 x 30 cm
This piece shows lines drawn on top of a collage made of many different elements that make up an interior. It can even be found circular shapes in the print to emphasize the elements of interior design in the piece. The purpose of this piece is to show that each interior is unique and personal.
Acrylic paint on canvas /
70 x 80 cm
This piece represents the colors that build an interior along with the direction of the lines which creates movement that represents the use of furniture in a room and their purpose of creating a lively room which is enjoyable and calming.
The use of bold colors tend to create a feeling of chaos but the soft colors used balance this chaotic feeling into a calming one. The piece represents a mix of different aesthetics used in interior design and their shared purpose to satisfy the interiorist and client.
Interactive sculpture / 8.9 x 17.5 cm
My intention with this sculpture is to show how the illimited times that one can change their interiors. For example, by changing the position of a chair, table, bed etc as well as color. The piece is divided into two sculptures and can be moved as much as the viewer wants until it achieves a form the viewer is pleased with.
The idea of this exhibition is Interior design and Cubism. Interior design has been something I have been passionate about for quite a long time and I wanted to challenge myself by combining art and interior design for the exhibition. Cubism is also one of my favorites art movements and I wanted to explore this movement further with interior design. Since I was a kid the first thing I would pay attention to when entering a house or any place was the interior and the placement of the furniture, light, color, etc and also the effect that the design had on the viewer. The artists that have influenced this exhibition have been David Hockney and Pablo Picasso. Both artists have explored the idea of interior design, cubism and cubist interior design in their collections which I have found pretty helpful for the exhibition and have used as inspiration. The message tried to convey in the exhibition is the many different ways interior design can be expressed in a room which explains why the exhibition feels repetitive as it expresses the changes of an interior design until it achieves the feeling the interiorist is looking for as well as it represents the development of human beings throughout their life.
The materials used in the exhibition have been collages done by me with the use of cut outs of different interior design magazines; photocopies of the collages and with the use of different colored pastels I have drawn lines on the photocopy creating joined lines and outlining the many elements of the collage which consisted of furniture; drawings with pastels on paper and acrylic paint on canvas and in them drawing lines throughout the painting; editing some of the drawings done digitally and printing a few of those paintings into canvas and an interactive structure made of thick paper which consists of the various drawings done. However, the materials used do not have an impact on the meaning of the work. The process of selecting the pieces that were going to be shown in the exhibition consisted of putting out in a table all the art pieces done so far and choosing the ones that I liked most and found very fitting with my idea and the message I am communicating. A few pieces are made up of 2 or 3 drawings which I felt were connected to each other and reminded me of the way everything connects to each other in interior design to create a feeling of peace and space.
As for the arrangement of the exhibition, I have decided to place the big painting in a corner to attract the viewer’s attention and have that piece being the first one being looked at and the drawings made up of several drawings were placed next to each other as the lighting highlighted the use of colors and the lines drawn into the pieces. Within those 3 works, in the middle appears to show a black and white piece which has been placed like so to express the contrast of light and color between the three pieces as well as with he black and white digital print on the canvas placed under the large vertical piece in the other corner. The interactive is found in the middle as I think is a piece that perfectly represents the message of the exhibition. The brown-orange canvas print next to the sculpture shows a similar pattern to the big canvas on top of it but with different colors, therefore, creating a different vibe to the piece and the colorful drawing next to the canvas print has been placed in the corner to show a softer side of interiors with the use of softer colors. The arrangement of the exhibition guides the viewer through different drawings of a similar piece to show how much an interior changes with the use of color, lines and different elements.
