Hello!
My name is Steven Haggard! I am a Pre-k Teacher at Irwin County Schools. This is my 6th year as a PREK teacher! I also have 2 years of experience in Kindergarten. I love bringing different forms of Technology into the classroom. In Pre-k, we teach ALL subject areas, but with a GREATER emphasis on Language and Literacy skills during Large Group and Math skills during small group. Other content areas come in the form of play in learning centers and student conversations throughout the day.
When the world shut down in March 2020, I kept continuing to "TEACH" in the hopes that this would be a "Temporary" few weeks, and that my students would still have something to listen and hold on to. Our schools were not requiring this, but I recorded teaching and reading videos for my students. I added these to my "Classtag" page for students to complete if they needed something to do! I continued this until we were told, school would no longer be in session for the rest of the school year.
I am often called upon by various teachers in my grade level(s) to show them how to use some sort of device, program, or give helpful hints and tools. When our school went to using Google for education, I was in the selected few that were chosen as "Basic Google trained." I went on later to take the official test to become LEVEL 1 Google Certified.
Welcome to my page! I hope these tools and TIPS help you discover ideas and ways to teach and promote technology in the PREK age level.

Standards and curriculum
Prek uses the GELDS (Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards) [click image below to be taken to GELDS website]
IRWIN County Pre-K NOW uses the CREATIVE CURRICULUM. This is our 2nd year completing this curriculum. THEMES/UNITS include:1. Beginning the Year, 2. BALLS 3. Clothes 4. Buildings 5. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, 6. Trees. ***Due to the amount of weeks, Creative Curriculum allows for teachers to be flexible to include holiday themes such as Christmas, Easter, and February Holidays etc...…****
To assess students we use Work Sampling Online (WSO) in prek. In WSO, teachers upload their data collected from various parts of the day in the form of Matrices, work Samples, photos, and notes. After uploading data, teachers connect that data to INDICATORS (that correlate to GELDS). After connecting the indicators, teachers go and RATE students on the developmental checklist as Not Yet, In progress, Proficient, or Did not observe. After all data has been collected and checklist completed, Teachers create narrative summaries for students to discuss with parents during parent conferences.
