Flocabulary is a learning program for all grades that uses educational hip-hop music to engage students and increase achievement across the curriculum. There are also vocabulary cards and quizzes.
In-person this tool can be used as an opener to a lesson. The videos are an exciting way to get students interested in the topic. Vocabulary cards are used to reinforce understanding of the terms. Students can check their understanding by completing the quiz. Virtually, Flocabulary can be used just the same. Teachers can post videos onto Google Classroom and students can view the videos, vocabulary cards, and complete the quizzes if needed.
I used Flocabulary during my openers and closings. I used Flocabulary videos when introducing new content. Students loved the catchy songs on the videos. Flocabulary is used as summarizers when assessing the students' knowledge using the quizzes.
Flocabulary engages students by being able to hear content presented in a fun, engaging tune. It introduces students to new vocabulary, which helps them build their vocabulary knowledge.

Kahoot is a game to practice application of content. Students can practice in a multiple-choice format while competing as a team or as an individual. Games are played live in the class. Questions and answers are displayed on a shared screen while students answer on their devices but you can choose to display questions on their devices, too. The game not only engages the students but gives valuable data to the teacher after the game ends. If teachers would like, he/she can take the games/quizzes for a grade.
In person, Kahoot can be played "live" in a whole class setting. Students' scores are displayed between each question. At the end, winners are shown on a podium screen. It displays 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Virtually, these games can be played using a given game code.
I use Kahoot in my classroom as a review of content. Since Kahoot is an interactive game/application, students enjoy quickly answering questions. The data is used to see the knowledge students have gained and what concepts they still need help on. It also shows individual student data. I can look at individual student information and see who is on target and who needs additional instruction.
Kahoot is a fun and engaging tool. Students like the quick games, competing against their classmates, earning points, and making it to the leader podium. Podium winners earn prizes.

After each quiz/game, Kahoot shows a screen with the podium winners - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Students love to see his/her name on this screen.
Kahoot allows teachers to access students' responses after the game is played. Teachers can view the skill as a whole or by individual questions. If needed the Kahoot quiz can be played again.
Google Forms is a free online tool from Google which allows you to create forms, surveys, and quizzes. Teachers can work together to edit and share the forms. Educators can use Google forms to assess their students at the beginning of the class and gauge pre-existing knowledge.
In person and virtually, teachers can use Google Forms to conduct surveys, quizzes/tests, and tickets out the door. Also, Google Forms is a quick way to collect information from parents without having to make individual contacts. Google Forms are easily posted onto Google Classroom.

Google Slides are easily posted to Google Classroom and Remind.

Study Island can be accessed by the teacher and used as a whole group instructional tool showing practice questions for the given skills. Study Island can be used as a group session in which students can complete questions and compete against each other. Teachers can create, share, and administer assessments/quizzes with each other.

I use Study Island as a fun way to complete "live" group sessions. Students answer questions and I can quickly access who understands the content. We sometimes use Study Island as a formative assessment tool. Teachers build tests/quizzes and administer them to the students. I love the ease of Study Island's reports. I can look at this summative report to see which students need additional support and what questions the students did/did not understand.
Study Island engages students because as mentioned above, students love the simplicity of the program. Students love that it is "not wordy" and easy to read. Students love the competition component of Study Island. They are learning, but it feels like a game.
