Readworks

This is an example of the data that can be gathered after students complete a reading passage with corresponding questions.

Description:

  • What does this tool do? How does it function? Readworks is a tool that benefits ELA teachers across all grade levels. It provides fiction and nonfiction passages along with vocabulary and question sets that vary in rigor. The passages can be assigned using Lexile levels or skills.

  • How does this tool engage and meet the needs of your students? I have used Readworks in a variety of ways to engage my students. In October, we completed a horror series that kept my students begging for more. After each read, the students completed a variety of tasks to go along with the series.

  • How do you use this tool in your classroom and regular basis? I use this tool in my ELA classroom in a variety of ways. I often use it as a ticket out the door or a comprehension check once we have mastered a new reading standard.

  • How could this tool be used for face to face instruction AND virtually? This tool can use used in both settings easily because it can be printed and assigned digitally through Google Classroom.

Pear Deck

Description:

  • What does this tool do? How does it function? Pear deck is a tool that can be used in the collaboration of Google Slides and PowerPoint to make slides fun and interactive.

  • How does this tool engage and meet the needs of your students? Most students dread when a teacher pulls up a PowerPoint presentation. Making the slides interactive through PearDeck keeps the students engaged and paying attention for longer periods of time.

  • How do you use this tool in your classroom and regular basis? I use this tool weekly in my classroom to introduce our reading standards. We start out by completing modeled, guided, and then independent practice using our interactive Peardeck.

  • How could this tool be used for face to face instruction AND virtually? Peardeck can be used as a resource for face to face instruction and virtual instruction. The Peardeck can present itself on any Chromebook or Computer using a specific code, and students can access it from anywhere.

Google Forms

Description:

  • What does this tool do? How does it function? Google Form is a tool that Google developed to allow its users create surveys/quizzes and push them out digitally for completion.

  • How does this tool engage and meet the needs of your students? This tool meets the needs for my students because it allows me to quickly check for understanding as a ticket out the door or as a more formal summative assessment.

  • How do you use this tool in your classroom and regular basis? I use this tool weekly as a way to both formally and informally assess my students. I also create Forms as a way to gather student data on surveys.

  • How could this tool be used for face to face instruction AND virtually? This is a great tool to use regardless of where students are learning. The forms can easily be pushed out to be completed virtually or in the classroom.

USA Test Prep

Description:

  • What does this tool do? How does it function? This tool is a standards based assessment tool that educators can utilize in a variety of ways. The teacher can choose the questions according to standards or difficulty level, or the program can randomly generate questions by standard. This tool allows educators to provide guided or independent instruction, as well as assessments.

  • How does this tool engage and meet the needs of your students? This tool meets the needs of my students because it provides quick feedback on their mastery level of our standards. The program has games and Bellinger activities that are engaging to the students so it will be more than reading and answering questions.

  • How do you use this tool in your classroom and regular basis? I use this tool weekly as a pre-assessment before the student's formative to check for understanding. I also utilize the bell ringer option to present questions whole group for discussion.

  • How could this tool be used for face to face instruction AND virtually? Since the students have their own individual login, USATestPrep can easily be assigned for face-to-face and virtual instruction.

EdPuzzle

Description:

  • What does this tool do? How does it function? EdPuzzle is a new tool for me that I absolutely love! This website has a plethora of videos with questions to go along with it to check for student understanding. It then generates a grade for the student.

  • How does this tool engage and meet the needs of your students? This program is engaging to students because most of the videos are interactive and engaging. Since the students have a video to engage in, they are more likely to listen better and answer a variety of questions more accurately.

  • How do you use this tool in your classroom and regular basis? I use this tool several times a month to introduce a new standard or practice independently. It is also a great tool to assign when a sub is in the room so the students can get some instruction on the standards being taught.

  • How could this tool be used for face to face instruction AND virtually? Since this tool can be assigned to the student's Google Classroom, it can easily be assigned virtually or the students can complete it in the classroom as well.
