My name is Heather Goff. I have been a teacher at Irwin County High School since 1999 and love being an Indian!
I have two children-- a son who graduated in 2020 and a daughter who is a student here.
I enjoy traveling with my husband to visit historical sites, covered bridges, and cemeteries. Some people think they are creepy, but I find them beautiful! I love reading classic literature, genealogy, and crafting during my summers.
I utilize Moby Max in my classroom to help students bridge gaps in their learning and address goals outlined in Individualized Education Plans. The program assesses students' current skill levels and assigns activities to address weaknesses and increase learning. Because the program is completely internet-based, students are able to access the website at school or at home.
Blooket is a tool used to review information that has been learned in class. Students are able to compete among themselves in a game-like activity which helps review and reinforce information in a more enjoyable manner than just completing study guides or reading notes. Blookets can be assigned to students to complete at home for individual review for tests as well.
Google docs are used to write papers and complete assignments. Students are able to get feedback on their documents to guide their writing and make corrections. The documents are saved in real time, so there is no worry of losing data and students are able to work on the assignment anywhere there is an internet connection. I also use google docs to complete study guides for students to review for tests.
Grammarly is an excellent resource that is an add-on to google docs that gives writers suggestions for their documents. Students are able to see corrections for spelling and grammar which is similar to spell check on Microsoft word, but it also gives suggestions for improving their writing. This assistance is available through their school email on any documents they are writing, therefore it is accessible anywhere they choose to complete assignments.
USA Test Prep is an online site used for the extension and review of skills learned in the classroom. The site has all academic subjects in each grade level available. There are also prep classes for ACT and SAT for students who want to review for those tests as well. Because the program is online, students can complete the assignments anywhere there is an internet connection.
