EdTech Toolbox

EdPuzzle

Edpuzzle is a web-based tool for editing online videos and adding interactive content to target specific learning objectives. Videos can be customized with voice-over comments, embedded assessment questions, links, and more. Teachers can share videos with their students, assign due dates, and track their students' scores and progress over time as students watch videos and answer embedded assessments. Students can watch videos solo or via "live mode," where teachers can show a video as a group activity.

One way I use Edpuzzle is for pre-teaching. Students previewing what is being taught drives my instruction easily for acceleration and remediation. Pairing videos with texts and extra information supports students preparing for an activity or lesson.

How to use this tool virtually? EdPuzzle is an application that is interactive as long as students have access to a link from a teacher. Teachers can use their voices to teach state curriculum through video presentations, requiring students to check their understanding of the material before moving on in the lesson. Rather than passively watching videos, EdPuzzle forces students to be thoroughly engaged with the course content.

These are a few lessons my students have completed in Edpuzzle this year over reading and math content.

There is a colored indicator that quickly lets the teacher know which students need remediation and others who would benefit from acceleration.

Edpuzzle can be assigned easily into Google Classroom for the students to complete independently or assigned whole group.

BrainPOP has educational animations in math, science, social studies, and arts and technology aligned with standards.

  • Educators can use this site to preview content or explain content through technology. Educators can link these videos through online platforms such as Google Classroom, Canva, etc..so virtually learning can take place. This site also has quizzes, games, and vocabulary practice to enhance learning. Parents who homeschool also can use the resources for their students.

I use the quizzes, games, and other resources as well to keep my students engaged. When assigned, I attach writing task or games to build on the content.

  • Students are actively engaged due to the animation aspect.

Kahoot

  • Let the Learning or Reviewing begin!

  • Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform, used as educational technology in schools and other educational settings. Its learning games, or so called "kahoots", are generated by educators or users using multiple choice answers. Access to Kahoot! is easily found by web browser or the Kahoot! app.

  • Live games are engaging and social experiences encourage friendly competition, which helps your virtual classrooms of all sizes connect. Start a Google Meet and share your screen if you want to present remotely, then select the Kahoot you'd like to launch from the Kahoot! tab and select 'Present'!

  • I use Kahoot! in my classroom to review content in an engaging and competitive way. My students love to be the first person to answer and enjoy seeing the Podium scores at the end. I use this in whole group and as well in FLEX with smaller groups.

  • This tool engages my students through game play.

Kahoot has a wide variety of different games that children can play.

The answer bank is designed using shapes and the primary colors.

Reports are very helpful to guide instruction for reteaching and acceleration.

Flocabulary

  • Flocabulary is a library of songs, videos and activities for K-12 online learning.

  • This can be used in the classroom to teach content through song. This site also has vocabulary practice, games, and even allows the students to make their own song about the content. These videos can be uploaded to online platforms such as Google Classroom, Canva, etc..

  • I use this tool in my classroom as an opener to my lessons. I assign other aspects of this site to my students through their Google Classroom.

  • The songs mimic music students listen to today and allows them to get out of their seats and move around and learn content through a different way. My kinesthetic learners love this platform.

Flocabulary covers 5 areas of learning that correlate with Bloom's Taxonomy.

Flocabulary is aligned with state standards that are easily obtainable and can be reached quickly for planning.

Additional resources are included with each video that enhances the student's learning experience with that content.
