Welcome to our Townley Torchlighter Family Newsletter.
This is a look at this month including updates, announcements and upcoming events.
October was a busy month- Parent Conferences, Literacy Night, Red Ribbon Week, and the Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Thank you families for donating to our Literacy Night and coming out to participate in the activities or hosting a trunk at PTA's Trunk or Treat. 5th grade- you did an amazing job with your performance.
Also, a special thank you to those who participated donating to the Torch Run for Special Olympics with Irving PD. In the past, this has taken place in the spring. Our Torchlighters are amazing people. The hearts in this community are so big and I am proud how we show love and kindness to one another. Thank you for making a positive impact.
Our Mission: At Townley, we ensure that all Torchlighters will learn and grow.
Our Vision: Torchlighters will shine brighter one day at a time.
We value: Relationships, Kindness & Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance & Growth, Respectfulness, Responsibility, and A Positive Learning Environment
Here are a few important dates and reminders:
School hours are 7:45am - 3:15pm. Cafeteria Doors open at 7:15 for all students; other doors open at 7:30 for student arrival.
Dress Code: Monday- Thursday students wear school uniforms. Fridays are Townley Spirit Days. Students are welcomed to wear Townley t-shirts, other Irving ISD shirts or uniform polos and blue jeans. *No holes in jeans. More information on the student dress code can be located on the district's website. Special dress days will be communicated to families, and if students choose not to participate, the expectation is students are in uniform.
Dismissal Safety Protocols: Students will stay in the building if they are car riders or parent walk ups. You must have a car tag to pick up your child during the dismissal process for car riders and colored parent walk up tag for parent pick-ups. Please remain in your car or at the designated Parent Walk-Up Station. Please refrain from bringing your dog to campus for arrival and dismissal. We want to keep all Torchlighters safe- physically and emotionally.
Safety Drills: While at school, continuing to keep all Torchlighters safe is a priority. We talk about and practice different safety drills including: fire, shelter in place (for bad weather), and lockdown. As a family discuss these drills and create a plan for your home as well.
Early Pick Up: If you are picking up your child from school before 2:30, you will need your ID. Students will not be released after 2:30.
Cell Phones: We’re so proud of our students for doing a great job following the rules, and we truly appreciate your support in helping us maintain this!
Students should not use cell phones or any other electronic devices during the school day, in line with district and campus policies.
All personal devices, including cell phones and smartphones, must be turned off while on campus and kept in their backpack.
If a student is found using their phone during school hours, it will be collected and taken to the front office. A parent or guardian will need to come to the school to pick up the device.
For more detailed information, you can refer to our Student Code of Conduct.
Thank you, families, for allowing us to be a part of your child's educational journey. We cannot wait to see your child #ShineBrightly this school year.

Parents, we cannot stress enough how important it is for students to be in their classrooms before the 7:45 AM tardy bell. When children arrive late, they miss out on:
Morning Specials
Daily Broadcast Announcements (including upcoming events)
The introduction and directions for their lessons
When students miss these key moments, they often feel confused, stressed, and behind because their teacher must keep moving forward and cannot stop to repeat instructions. Over time, this directly impacts both learning and classroom behavior. Please help your child start their day ready for success—on time and prepared!
We need your partnership to keep all students safe during dismissal. Please remember:
Move all the way forward in the car line so we can load as many cars as possible.
Do not park in NO-PARKING zones. Police officers have been ticketing drivers who block roads or ignore school zone laws.
No cell phones in the school zone.
Never allow students to run across the middle of the street to reach your car—this creates dangerous near-miss situations.
Your children are watching—please be a positive role model by obeying all traffic signs, laws, and dismissal procedures. Together, we can ensure that every Torchlighter gets home safely each day.
***SHHHHHHH! In Honor of our favorite safety guy*** Officer Box is a blessing to Townley and in honor of our Marine on the 250th birthday of the Marines, Monday 11/10 we are having Box Day! So of course if your family would like to honor him with some extra fist bumps that would be amazing, but we are ALL going to dress like him. Everyone who would like to participate will be in red shirts and black bottoms. You may even wear a black cap. Of course there will be no weapons allowed. No toys, water guns, nothing of the sort. It will be taken away. We are keeping it a secret from him so he wont know until he realizes :) SSSHHHHHHHH!! You will get a reminder message from Gallaga, but put it on your calendar now. A day with a little fun and many extra "thank you".. We appreciate him so much.
Thank you for making your child’s safety and education a top priority. At Townley, we are more than a school—we are a family. Let’s continue to care for one another and keep our Torchlighter community strong!
“Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students, and supportive parents.” – Bob Beauprez
Time is really flying through. We are looking toward spending thankful times with our families. With that being said, thank you parents for all that you do for your child, his/her teacher, and the school as whole. Have you contacted your child's teacher to make sure that you connected on Class Dojo and Kinevolved to keep the positive communications going between home and school? Are you staying updated with your child's grade and academic progress. These are just a few things to help ensure that your child is having a successful year. Your positive interaction can help your child stay positive, you informed, and the school to keep a positive culture.
This year's curriculum and the hard work of our staff are positively impacting our students. You can connect with the curriculum via the internet by asking your child's teacher to send you the link. Because of the fast pace and the difficulty of the curriculum, it is VERY IMPORTANT that your child is here EVERYDAY and ON TIME (7:35 AM) and in school uniform. They do not need to miss any instructional time. Also, parents please remember that ALL students need to be picked up no later than 3:30 PM.
Again parents we are grateful to have your child attend Townley and for your wonderful support.
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." -
John F. Kennedy

NEWS FROM YOUR FRONT OFFICE
Students are considered late if they are not in the building at 7:45. Parents will need to come inside and sign their student in. Kids are missing out on valuable class time and activities when they are not present. Be here, everyday, ready and ON TIME!
The first perfect attendance dress day (on time and present every day for the six weeks) was September 29th! We are so proud of the 400+ students who were able to theme dress for the 80s. We GLOW UP for ATTENDANCE! The next time is 11/17. Will your student get to participate? You will receive a message from Gallaga about details if they do :)
When your students appointment is early, bring them to school after. With a doctors note they will receive credit for the whole day.
If you need to pick up your student(s) early, please do so before 2:30.
Always have your ID available when requesting entry to the building or picking up a student from the office.
If your student is absent, please call the office or email Faith. A doctor's note is requested for three consecutive absences or any absence after four per semester (IISD Student Handbook pg 36)

Also, please do not "stop" text messages from Townley Staff or your teacher. You will miss out valuable communication.
Please contact the front office for any questions regarding HAC at 972-600-6800.
News from Nurse Brown
Happy Fall! I am having such a blast getting to know each and every one of your kiddos, fixing boo-boos, and getting all the hugs and high-fives in the world. As we head into the colder months, I want to remind everyone of a few ways to combat the cooties--
Please remind students to wash their hands. This is one of the most effective ways to prevent illness; handwashing should take 20 seconds. One way students can remember this is by singing Happy Birthday twice!
Cover those coughs & sneezes!
If your student is running a fever or vomiting, keep them home so they can rest and recover to make a strong return to school. Students should be vomit & fever free without medication for 24 hours before they can return.
Please continue to send extra clothes with your students, just in case of an accident, we like to be prepared so they can change quickly and go back to class.
With colder weather coming along, students with asthma may have more frequent exacerbations. If your pediatrician recommends a change in your student's inhaler regimen, please let me know so I can administer their medication in a timely manner.
Please call or email with questions or concerns, thanks!

🎁 Townley Toy Drive – Helping Our Own Townley Students in Need 🎁
This holiday season, we’re coming together as a Townley family to spread joy and kindness! We are asking for your help by donating new, unwrapped toys for our Christmas Adoption Program, which supports Townley students in need.
Your generosity will help bring smiles and hope to children right here in our school community. Donations can be dropped off in the front office starting November 3-December 12th.
Thank you for helping us make this season brighter for our Townley Torchlighters! 💛
Thank you to all of you who made the Scholastic Book Fair a great success! I'm also grateful to the families who participated in the book-character pumpkin decorating contest. The students and teachers had so much fun looking at all of the beautiful pumpkins. They sparked many a conversation about books!
Recently, the 3rd-5th graders and I read Everywhere Beauty is Harlem by Gary Golio. It is about a photographer who saw beauty everywhere he went. I find beauty here every day. Townley is an amazing community, and I'm blessed to be a part of it.
As we enter the holiday season, make some time to cozy up with your children and read. By reading aloud to them, you are creating memories!
With library joy,
Carol Bullman

Building Reading Fluency at Home
Improving our reading skills is similar to improving skills playing a game, sport, or instrument. It requires practice. To be a better reader, we need to practice.
Your help at home is so important to help your child become a fluent reader. What does it mean to be a fluent reader? A fluent reader can read at a pace similar to speaking, with expression, and reading words correctly.
Here are three ways you can help your child become a fluent reader:
*Echo reading - You read a sentence and then let your child echo and read that same sentence.
*Partner reading - You and your child take turns reading together. You can read a page and then let your child read the next page.
*Repeated reading - Listen to your child read a sentence (paragraph, or page). If it is not smooth and they struggle with a few words, help them and then have them read it again until they read it smoother with fewer pauses and more accurate pronunciation of words.
Reading with your child allows them to improve their reading skills and also allows you to spend time together as a family! Happy Reading!
