Irving ISD has implemented a new learning management system (LMS) called Canvas where courses for students in 4th through 12th grade are housed. Canvas is a one-stop digital classroom and will be used by teachers and students.
Students, parents and staff will be able to utilize this new and improved LMS to:
View and submit assignments
Track student progress (official grades are found in HAC)
Interact with teachers/students
Access other digital tools used in the classroom
Seesaw is a platform for student engagement. Teachers can empower students to create, reflect, share, and collaborate. Students “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. It’s simple to get student work in one place and share with families.
Purpose
Millions of students nationwide lack the access to technology and the skills they need to succeed in the digital world. Since 2017, Irving ISD, Verizon, and Digital Promise have been working to help solve this problem through a transformative program called Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS).
All Irving Middle Schools are currently benefiting from this innovative program, and IISD is one of two districts across the nation selected to participate in the first ever VILS high school program. Digital Promise is collaborating with Verizon to equip every sixth through ninth grade student and teacher at Irving ISD with a device and a data plan.
In addition to free technology and access, Verizon Innovative Learning Schools receive extensive teacher training, support, and the opportunity to engage in the innovative use of technology for high-impact learning.
Vision: To empower teachers to inspire tomorrow's innovators.
Mission: Utilizing their extensive educational expertise, Irving ISD Digital Coaches design and implement impactful learning experiences for teachers and students through collaboration with campus educators and leaders.
