Welcome to Mrs. Arnell's School Counseling Page! My job as a school counselor is to promote student academic success. I work to help students develop the skills needed to succeed in school and eventually in college or a career. This involves teaching the soft skills that are foundational to learning and interpersonal success, including getting along with others (social skills) and helping students learn to manage themselves appropriately at all times (emotional and self-regulatory skills).
To teach these skills, I do the following:
1) Most of my time is spent in the classroom. I go to each classroom twice a month to teach the skills mentioned above. The topics I address are directed by feedback from teachers, parents, and the community council.
2) I work with specific students who are struggling with issues that are hindering development in these areas through group work. These are short term, skill based interventions usually lasting 2-3 months.
3) I also meet with students individually on a short term basis to offer support as needed.
I love working with students of all ages. My goal is to help students feel like they belong, encourage them to be their best selves and understand that they can be successful in school and beyond.
If you or your students would like counseling services from Mrs. Arnell or Mrs. Harline (school therapist), please download, sign both sides and return this form to the school.
Each month I send home a Newsletter to let you know what we will be talking about in classroom guidance lessons. I will also upload Newsletters here.
As per local school board requirements, the materials I use in Classroom Guidance lessons will be available online for parents to view. Materials that are not copyright protected will be listed on the following document. This dynamic document is subject to change throughout the year to respond to student needs and Mrs. Arnell's continued professional development. If any parent would like to view copyrighted materials, they may be viewed in my office by appointment.
