Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a system that Evans Mills Primary implements in order to make our students empathetic, motivated, problem solvers and safe. We want the school culture at Evans Mills Primary to be positive, yet rewarding. As our schools PBIS Coach, our faculty and staff have worked very hard to teach our students the importance of achieving academic and social goals.
We begin each year with a BIG kick-off event, in which the students are introduced to PBIS and the expectations that come with it. There are so many different areas to our building (playground, cafeteria, hallways, assemblies, etc.) and each area requires students to follow expectations. The expectations are posted in each of the areas to remind students of their jobs.
If students are caught following expectations around the building, they can earn a POM-POM for their classroom jar. POM-POMS can be earned by individual students, as well as by the entire class. Once the students have filled their classroom jar, the class can earn a puzzle piece to the school-wide puzzle. When the puzzle is completed, the entire building will take part in a school-wide celebration! This is a great reward for students and following our building expectations.
