Literacy Block

Here at IRCSD we follow the 3-6 Balanced Literacy Framework. This two and a half hour framework includes a 60 minute Reader's Workshop (includes ability based guided reading groups), a 60 minute Writer's Workshop, and 15-30 minutes of Word Study (language and spelling).

In third grade, students write three different types of writing pieces: narrative, informative, and opinion.

We will delve into a variety of genres when reading as well. Some of the many genres are nonfiction, poetry, realistic fiction, mystery, historical fiction, fantasy, traditional literature, (auto)biographies, memoirs, science fiction, etc.
