This is Mr. Lupi’s second year at Indian River CSD. His teaching duties include directing the HS Wind Ensemble, HS Jazz Band, HS Percussion Ensemble, 6 – 12 percussion lessons, and Parade Band. Prior to his appointment at Indian River, he held teaching positions at Gouverneur CSD, Port Chester – Rye U.F.S.D., West End Day School (NYC), and New Albany Floyd County Schools in Indiana. Mr. Lupi has presented masterclasses in NY, NJ, KY, TN, and IN.
As a percussionist, Mr. Lupi has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, Kentucky Opera, Louisville Ballet, Wagner Theater Company (MSM), Orchestra of Northern New York (ONNY), off-Broadway musicals (NYC), and was a 2010 Crane School of Music Concerto Competition Winner. He has performed at the World Association for Symphonic Band and Ensembles (WASBE) in California, Carnegie Hall, Drum Boogie Festival at Woodstock, Brooklyn Panorama, Percussive Arts Society Weekend of Percussion (NYC), SUNY Day of Percussion at SUNY Purchase, NYSSMA All-State Conference, Fisher Center at Bard, Brown Theater, and the Kentucky Center of the Performing Arts. He studied with members of the New York Philharmonic, New York Pops, New York City Ballet, New Jersey Symphony, Greenwich Symphony, and the Pershing’s Own Army Band. As a percussion instructor, his students have attended NYSSMA All County, Area All State, Bi-County, Oldham County (KY) All district Bands, and Juilliard Pre-College.
Mr. Lupi served eight years in U.S. Army Bands, stationed at the 101st Airborne Division (AA) Band and the 10th MTN Division (LI) Band. His duties included performing with the Concert Band (Section Leader), Marching Band, Brass Band, Jazz Band, Brass Quintet, and Woodwind Quintet. Highlights include performing the halftime show at the Tennessee Titans (NFL) under Billy Ray Cyrus and Voices of Service, halftime shows for the Nashville Predators (NHL), Nashville Parade (MB), and Change of Commands for two and three-star generals. As a conductor, Mr. Lupi conducted the 10th MTN Division Bands Concert Band and Brass Ensemble for the winter and summer concert series. In addition to his performance duties, he served in administrative roles including Human Resources NCOIC, Contracting NCO, Government Purchase Cardholder, Logistics NCOIC, Master Fitness Trainer, and Equal Opportunity Leader. His decorations include the Air Assault Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge – Silver (GAFPB), ARCOM, AAM, AGCM, NDSM, NCOPD, and GWOT.
Mr. Lupi holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music; SUNY Potsdam and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from New York University. He furthered his studies by attending the Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music’s Doctorate in Musical Arts (DMA) in Percussion Performance program. Mr. Lupi was a Mike Balter Performing Artist from 2013 – 2020.
Jason Crumb currently serves as the Director of the Concert Band at Indian River. His teaching duties include HS Concert Band, assisting 6th and 7/8 Band, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Indian River Marching Wild Wolves and Indian River Theatre of the Performing Arts Technical Assistant. Prior to teaching at Indian River, Mr. Crumb has also taught a varying array of musical ensembles at Oneida City School District, Vernon-Verona-Sherril Central Schools and Luzerne Music Center.
While recieving degrees in both Music Education and Music Performance at State University of New York at Fredonia, Mr. Crumb studied under Dr. Wildy Zumwalt. As a saxophonist, Mr. Crumb has played with the Fredonia Wind Ensemble, The Fredonia Jazz Orchestra, Downbeat-Award-Winning Fredonia Flextet, and the Fredonia Saxophone Ensemble. Mr. Crumb has participated in masterclasses with members of the Saxophone Quartet; Singularity, played alongside Central Winds Music Educator Ensemble, and was a finalist in the 2022 Fredonia Concerto Competition.
