6th Grade Curriculum

Purpose: To provide grade six students at Indian River Middle School with the requisite skills and knowledge to use the computer as an effective tool to communicate ideas and information, conduct research and expand their base of knowledge beyond the home and classroom.

Methodology: Grade six students will attend Computer Science class every other day on our six day cycle. Our Computer Technology curriculum has many components. These components and their focus vary but ultimately contribute to the main goal of preparing students for their future academically and in the digital world.

7th and 8th Grade Curriculum

Purpose: To provide seventh and eighth grade students with the opportunity to develop higher level computer skills. Students will be exposed to a variety of technologies that stimulate creativity and innovation while fostering digital competence.

Methodology: The components of the seventh and eighth grade curriculum's are built around the standards outlined by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The six National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) reflect the six units students will explore in computer technology class, they are listed below.

Throughout computer class students will encounter many different programs, resources, web 2.0 applications and software that fulfills the mandated requirements but more importantly, gives students the tools to be successful in today's digital world. This class will unravel possibilities in communication, innovation and information that will prove be beneficial in their educational journey as well as their personal lives. As technology continues to make rapid developments, I believe it has become vital to prepare our youth for the technical future that lies ahead of them.
