COLLEGE INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

College Visits

Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend college Information sessions. They will take place in Room 703 or Charter Hall. Sign-up forms will be posted in Google Classroom and in emails. Students may only attend if they ask for permission and missing work before attending and if they do not have a D or F in that class.


College large group information meetings will begin soon! Please watch for emails and homebase notes for dates and times!

SAT/ACT

IRCHS requires every graduating senior to pass take an Exit Exam. SAT/ACT are also required for many college admissions. Each individual college has separate test preferences and score requirements. The links below have administration dates. Keep in mind that deadlines are usually 3 to 4 weeks in advance of the date that you would like to test, and there are not tests in the beginning of the calendar year.

Bright Futures Testing Requirements:

Florida Academic Scholar: 1340 SAT Score/29 ACT Score CLT Score 96

Florida Medallion Scholar: 1210 SAT Score/25 ACT Score CLT Score 84

SAT/ACT fee waivers are available for anyone who qualifies for free/reduced lunch programs. Applications must be filled out annually. 

FAFSA

FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is required to qualify for student aid and federal student loans.  This should be filled out for every student. It is used also used for determining eligibility for certain scholarships.

FAFSA applications open on December 2023

Both the Senior AND a Parent will need to sign up for an FSA ID before the FAFSA can be completed and will be used multiple times in the financial aid process. This requires your Social Security Number and Phone Number.

Determining Dependent or Independent Status 


Bright Futures

Bright Futures scholarships award money to Florida graduates that are attending Florida colleges. There are 2 levels of aid. Florida Academic level recipients will receive 100% of tuition and applicable fees, plus a $300 educational expense stipend. Florida Medallion level recipients will receive 75% of tuition and applicable fees, but will not receive the $300 educational expense stipend. 

All applicants must complete 4 English credits, 4 Mathematics Credits, 3 Natural Science credits, 3 Social Science Credits, and 2 World Language credits in the same language. 

Florida Academic Scholar recipients must have a weighted academic GPA of 3.5 or higher, complete 100 hours of community service, and score a 1340 on the SAT or a 29 on the ACT.

Florida Medallion Scholars must have a weighted academic GPA of 3.0 or higher, complete 75 hours of community service and score a 1210 on the SAT or a 25 on the ACT.

Applicants must have all scores and volunteer hours logged with their School Counselors and complete a Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA). Any volunteer hours completed before December should be submitted to homebase teachers. Anything after December 2nd should be submitted to your counselor.

Job Shadowing

Professional Interview

Job Shadowing or Professional Interview will count as the final exam during Senior Seminar. Each student will be required to complete 6- 8 hours of IN-PERSON job shadowing or conduct a professional interview with an employee AND manager/supervisor; college student AND college professor. This is required to be completed by November 27, 2023. Students will be required to call and research places to go or interview on their own.

Mrs. Thompson will be providing suggestions when asked, but we would like students to try to make their own contacts first.

All forms will be available in Google Classroom on August 28, 2023. Permission slips must be signed by all students, parents/guardians, and teachers at least one week prior to missing school for it to be excused.
