PhD students

Lizbeth Anaid Rodríguez Cortés (4th year)

2019 to date. PhD student in Chemistry, UNAM.

2017- 2019. MSc in Chemistry, UNAM

2008-2016. BSc in Chemistry, UNAM

Liz was born in the State of Mexico, and she is currently taming the organic synthesis of conjugated compounds with a Donor-Acceptor-Donor (D-A-D) architecture. Such molecules have potential applications in many fields, including but not limited to, biology sensors, metamaterials and optoelectronic devices. When she is not in the lab, she likes going to the movies and reading thriller novels.

Armando Navarro Huerta (3rd year)

2021 to date. PhD student in Chemistry, UNAM.

2019 - 2021. MSc in Chemistry, UNAM (with Honors)

2014 - 2019. BSc in Chemistry, School of Chemistry (with Honors), UNAM

Armando was born and raised in Salamanca, Guanajuato. He earned his bachelor degree in Chemistry at UNAM, during his time as undergraduate student worked in projects based on analytical chemistry and synthetic chemistry. He joined the Molina Group in 2018, where he developed a thesis on carbazole-based crystalline molecular machines (BSc), one in weak fluorine interactions to control the dynamics of a rotator (MSc) and currently working in desing and synthesis of CT cocrystals featuring PL and rotational dynamics. He enjoys Formula 1, Halo and good meals.

José Julián Mejía Alemán (3rd year)

2021 to date         PhD student in Chemistry, UNAM.

2019 - 2021 MSc in Chemistry, UNAM

2011 - 2016 BSc Chemist, UAM-I

Julian was born in Mexico City and has lived in the State of Mexico all his life. He is currently developing marvelous Charge-Transfer Self-Assembled Rotors and in his spare time he likes to play electric guitar like a professional, listen metal and rock and read thriller novels!

Dazaet Galicia Badillo (2nd year)

2022 to date  PhD student in Chemistry, UNAM

2020 - 2022   MSc in Chemistry, UNAM

2014 - 2020   BSc in Chemistry, School of Chemistry, UNAM

Dazaet was born in the town of Acolman, in the State of Mexico. During high school, he was amazed by the power of chemistry and decided to become an expert on this science. Once at UNAM, he developed an interest on cool topics like the development of organometallic porous materials for future applications, therefore, his focus lies on the synthesizes the organic linkers for such novel compounds.

In his spare time, he attends professional dancing competitions, reads novels, and listens to electronic music!

Ernesto Ángel Hernández Morales (1st year)

2022 to date PhD student in Chemistry, UNAM

2020 - 2022. MSc in Chemistry, UNAM (with honors)

2015 - 2020 BSc in Chemistry, School of Chemistry, UNAM

Ernesto was born in the astonishing city of Temoaya, State of Mexico. He fell in love with science in high school and made the bold decision to become a chemist at UNAM. Very quietly, he has transmuted matter into award-winning crystalline molecular rotors! He works in the appasionate world responsive materials, and he likes fitness life and day-dreaming about astronomy. Perhaps the stars will allow him to reach the glory sooner rather than later.

MSc students

Jorge Espinosa Rocha  (Chemistry major)

2020 to date. MSc in Chemistry, UNAM

2014 - 2020 BSc in Chemistry, School of Chemistry, UNAM

George was born in the beautiful city of Puebla, but shortly after his family moved to Mexico City. During middle school, he discovered that chemistry is the science of the very cool stuff and decided to take a piece of it. Currently he is in his final year on the School of Chemisty at UNAM, while pursuing his thesis on the synthesis of Structurally Diverse Molecular Rotors. When he is not in the lab, he likes to read novels and short stories, visit museums, or listen to any kind of music.

Erick René Hernández Santiago (Chemistry Major)

2021 to date MSc in Chemistry, UNAM

2015 - 2022 BSc in Chemistry, School of Chemistry, UNAM

Erick was born in the city of Chimalhuacán, State of Mexico. At very young age he realized that chemistry is the most powerful way to transform our lives and, before high-school, he decided to focus on this for the rest of his studies.

Once at UNAM, he was caught by surprise for the prominent features of the Metal-Organic Frameworks, and put his mind into them, pondering how to combine these materials with metrology. When he is not in the lab, he likes to watch movies, read novels and attend concerts!

Undergraduates

Jade Monserrat Velázquez Cisneros (Chemistry Major)

2018 to date. BSc in Chemistry, UNAM

Jade was born in Mexico City. Currently she is studying chemistry at Faculty of Chemistry, UNAM. She joined Rodriguez-Molina Group in 2021 and recently, she discovered the fascinating world of responsive materials and crystal engineering.

In her spare time, she likes being with her family and pamper her cats. She likes watching Korean dramas, anime and listening to music.
