Required Course Offerings | Descriptions

District 204 requires 2.5 credits of Social Studies Education. However, most colleges & universities prefer 3.0 credits.

Human Geography (9th-Yearlong)

A contemporary look at the World, where students will analyze and develop a deeper understanding of global issues.

AP Human Geography (9th-12th-Yearlong)

Focuses on the impact human populations have on the planet by studying religion, ethnicity, gender, population patterns, economic development, agriculture, and urbanization. 

American Society (10th-Yearlong)

This two-period course connects American History with English, examining and analyzing what it means to be an American. *Fulfills the American History and English 2 graduation requirement.

U.S. History (10th-12th-Yearlong)

Study of American History and the evolution of American ideals. 

AP U.S. History (11th-12th-Yearlong)

College-level study of American History and the evolution of American ideals.

NOTE: This can be taken during the 10th grade if AP World History was taken as a 9th grader.

Government (11th-12th-Semester)

Introduces the student to the basic principles of political science and emphasis on students becoming part of an active citizenry. 

NOTE: This course can be taken in our "BLENDED" format.

AP U.S. Government & Politics (11th-12th-Semester)

College-level course provides students with conceptual tools necessary to develop an understanding of America's diverse political structure and practices.

Elective Course Offerings | Descriptions

AP European History (10th-12th-Yearlong)

College-level course  where students explore in-depth themes of modern European history from the High Renaissance to the recent past.

AP World History (10th-12th-Yearlong)

Covers from 600 CE to the present, and analyzes regions around the globe including Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. 

Military History (10th-12th-Semester)

Course covers various aspects of warfare throughout human history, including nature of war, tactics and strategy, technology, military leaders, and crucial battles.

Psychology (11th-12th-Semester)

Course will provide students with an understanding of their own behavior, as well as the behavior of other individuals in society.

Sociology (11th-12th-Semester)

Provides students with the basic concepts and tools necessary for understanding human social behavior in a complex world.

AP Psychology (11th-12th-Yearlong)

College-level course that expands student understanding of their own behavior, as well as the behavior of other individuals in society.
