Hospitalization Supports
As the WV Mental Health Coordinator one of my roles is to help with students who are out on medical leave from school. With this comes the responsibility of communicating between home, school and the hospital. Parents are asked to contact me, and the hospital will be doing the same.
Mental Health Coordinators Duties:
Collecting homework from your child's classes
Forwarding to the tutor assigned to work with your child/student.
Any academic or clinical information will be coordinated thru me
attendance
schoolwork
concerns expressed about school
mental health treatment - if clinical releases are signed (this is encouraged)
If materials need to be picked up from school (hard copy of a textbook, etc.), I will contact you to pick up those materials, but all other information will be faxed, shared or emailed.
I will create a document monitoring what homework is collected from teachers and the tutor as well as sending a list to family of what is needing to be worked on.
On most cases a transition meeting will be held at WV to look at treatment and school related information
I will then work with your child upon transitioning back to school for emotional check ins to assisting with an academic plan to catch up with missing materials.
Please keep in mind that all work will be essential materials to learning due to the focus being on your child's safety and emotional well being.
Your child will have time to complete tasks so please do not worry if they get behind a bit.
Parent duties:
One thing I ask of parents is to please let me know if there are changes in program or attendance to school plan (this happens closer to transitioning back to school).
Keep me posted of any concerns your child is experiencing
Encourage your child to complete work at home
