Course Description: During this 2 week course, you will be doing a 20 Time Project. Cohort members will choose a topic or project they would like to pursue. They will submit a proposal, research the topic, and create a pitch for their idea or topic. Each participant will need to find a way to share what they learned. At the close of the cohort- we will have a showcase of the 20 Time projects.
I have been a huge fan of 20 percent time and genius hour projects since I first read about Google’s culture of allowing Googlers to explore their own passions. I’ve explored a variety of different genius hour projects with my students over the years. Some have been incredible and some needed a bit of work.
I was incredibly excited to use two weeks to engage in my own passion project. There are so many things connected to education that I always want to find time to explore and this project was the perfect opportunity.
I chose to explore, create, and organize a site connected to Student Voice for Educators. A great deal of what we’ve done over the past 12 weeks in this cohort comes back to student voice. It was a big part of many of our classes, and I enjoyed watching the cohort members share their voices in so many different ways.
I enjoyed every aspect of my Student Voice exploration and I wish I had more time to dive deeper during the class. I think I’ve put together some nice resources and I hope every educator who explores the resources finds some that will help their students create, communicate, and reflect as part of the learning experience.
For future consideration I’d like to place a great emphasis on the different types of creative student voice. Too often the default is either class discussions or digital video recordings. I would like to see how connecting a variety of mediums would engage students.
