Writing
Curriculum Overview
In fifth grade, we learn about the following types of writing:
Personal Narratives - Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
Informational Writing - Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. Conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.
Opinion Writing - Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
Science Fiction Writing - Write a story that tells about things that might happen in the future or in other worlds. Often including ideas surrounding robots, space travel, aliens, or advanced technology.
Poetry - Write poems that use beautiful or creative language to express feelings, ideas, or tell a story. Often incorporating rhythm, like music, and sometimes rhymes, but not always.
