Wrestling Gear

Every sport has equipment, wrestling is no exception.

Shoes - A wrestling shoe is lightweight and flexible. This allows the athlete to easily maneuver around on the wrestling mat without getting caught up like bulky gym shoes.

Headgear - The headgear protects the athlete’s ears. The school does provide headgear, but they are old. We recommend getting your own set.

Mouth Guard - A mouth guard is only needed for wrestlers that have braces. This will prevent small cuts in the mouth. If you do not have braces, you do not need a mouth guard.

Uniform - This is provided by the school. At Scullen, we have a 2 piece uniform which consists of a shirt and a pair of shorts.

Coaches

Coach Driscoll

I grew up in Naperville and wrestled at Hill Middle School and Waubonsie Valley High School. When I was in 5th grade, my older brother made me come to a club wrestling practice. I joined the club and wrestled all the way through high school. Upon getting my job as an Art teacher in district 204, I started coaching wrestling at Gregory Middle School. I continued coaching when I moved over to Scullen.

I still enjoy working with the athletes and seeing them grow in skill. I’m very proud that some former Scullen wrestlers have gone on to place in state at the high school level. My philosophy for middle school level wrestling is to teach the wrestlers the basics about the sport and make it a fun experience.

Coach Norkus

I started my wrestling career as a 7th grade student at West View Middle School in Romeoville.  I continued to wrestle throughout my high school and college years.

When I became a teacher I instantly knew I wanted to coach wrestling.  I started at Still Middle School and eventually made my way to Scullen when it opened.  Whenever we begin a new season, I have a close opportunity to work with our returning wrestlers.  I am amazed at how much they improve from one season to the next. I also like panda bears!
