Swingin' Strings

Swingin' Strings is Scullen's extracurricular contemporary string group. We play fun music - pop, rock, fiddle, movie themes and more. All 7th, 8th grade and advanced 6th grade violin, viola, cello or bass players are welcome to join. We meet at 7am on Tuesdays September through May with performance opportunities at Scullen orchestra concerts, WV Fine Arts Festival and a possible community event.

In January, 6th grade students who take private lessons can join and we add a Friday rehearsal through May.

REHEARSALS Swingin' Strings practices before school on Tuesdays from 7:00-7:40 a.m. and in January we add Fridays (see exact dates below). Students who join are expected to attend and be on time to all rehearsals and performances. Students should arrive between 6:45 a.m.and 6:55 a.m - Ms Silberman and/or Mr. White will be there at the main Scullen entrance . Students are expected to be unpacked and ready to play by 7:00 a.m. If students arrive late, after 7am, the Scullen doors will be locked and they will have to wait for another Scullen staff member to let them into the building (students will need to show that staff member their student ID)  Consistent attendance is an expectation.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES Swingin' Strings students will be provided with the music that we will use for this year’s group. Students will use their Orchestra Binder to keep their Swingin’ Strings music throughout the year. Students in Swingin' Strings will be put into a Google Classroom for Swingin' Strings.

Required Rehearsals and Dates

We perform at Scullen orchestra concerts (click for schedule), WV Fine Arts Festival, and there will be a possible community event - more information on that event will be posted here and detailed in the Swingin' Strings Google Classroom

1st semester

2nd semester

There is a new protocol for early groups at Scullen. Students will be met by one of the music teachers from 6:45-6:55am. After that time the doors will be locked. Students may enter if a Scullen staff member lets them in - students are asked to show their ID to that staff member and let them know they are in an early music group.
