My Family

Welcome to Tech

Mr. Kelsey has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade computers at Hill Middle School since 1998. He earned an undergraduate degree in business and computer education from Illinois State University, later earning his Masters degree in Curriculum, Technology, and Education Reform from University of Illinois.

Mr. Kelsey acts as Hill’s technology liaison, lead teacher, and technology trainer. He also sponsors the Washington DC and Springfield student trips. His eighteen year old triplets (gbb) and fifteen year old (g) “bonus” always keep Mr. Kelsey busy during the summer. With a love for the outdoors, his entire family spends much of the summer, traveling the country in their travel trailer, enjoying nature and the sights.

GRADING / HOMEWORK / LATEWORK POLICIES

Homework and Late Work

All assignments, agendas, and tutorials are posted in Google Classroom

2) No HOMEWORK…Only for catch-up if needed.

3) Late work is accepted up until the last week of the quarter.

> If it is turned in during the same unit, there is no penalty.

> If it is turned in after the unit, 60% of earned credit is given.

4) Missing assignments appear as a Z (zero) until they are turned in.

Grading Policy: Focusing on Mastery

My grading policy reflects what your child has truly learned and mastered, rather than just tracking daily task completion. By focusing on deep understanding, my grades give a true picture of your child's growth and academic success.

Projects and Assessments (75%): Your child will show their mastery through hands-on, project-based assessments instead of traditional tests and quizzes.

Daily Work and Assignments (25%): This is the daily practice where students explore new skills, take creative risks, and learn from mistakes.

TECH REVOLUTION CURRICULUM

**In 2019, Illinois passed the Illinois Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA). SOPPA now requires that school districts and operators execute a data sharing agreement when sharing student information for digital products that are specifically created for k-12 use. This class utilizes a resource that does not fall under the SOPPA guidelines, meaning the product is created for post-secondary or professional audiences, thus a Data Privacy agreement is not in place between the district and operator. The resource utilized in this course has been reviewed and approved by our Curriculum and Instruction Department and Tech Services Department.
