November is
National Picture Book Month

How many picture books can you read in a month?

For the whole month of November, here’s how we’ll track the number of books we read:

Each student will get a tracking sheet and a tally sheet. (Keep a running list and send in a weekly tally sheet. The running list will be turned in at the end of the month.)

Each week on Monday, the tally sheet will be turned in to classroom teachers so tallies can be counted and successes announced.

What students read individually goes on the tracking sheet, but also…

· If families read together, each child in the family puts it on their own tracking sheet.

· If brothers and sisters read together, they both write it on their own sheets.

· If friends read with each other, both of them put it on their tracking sheet.

· If any non-classroom teacher reads to the whole class, each child in the class gets to count it on their tracking sheet.

What they don't write down is what a teacher reads to the class - the teacher counts that for a classroom/grade level challenge.

Any type of picture book can be read: storybook, biography, nonfiction, wordless.
