Celebrating Women’s History Month | Mar 1st – Mar 31st
As we continue our journey through the school year and welcome the early signs of spring, March offers us a meaningful opportunity to reflect, learn, and celebrate Women’s History Month. Throughout the month, our schools and community come together to honor the achievements, resilience, and lasting contributions of women who have shaped our history and continue to inspire progress across every field.
Why We Celebrate?
Women’s History Month is a time to recognize courage, leadership, innovation, and perseverance. From
educators, scientists, and healthcare pioneers to artists, athletes, activists, and leaders, women have played a vital role in shaping our communities and our nation. This month encourages us to uplift diverse voices, learn from the past, celebrate achievements, and inspire all students—especially young leaders—to dream boldly and act confidently.
What’s Happening in Our Schools?
• Classroom Spotlights: Teachers are highlighting influential women leaders, innovators, and trailblazers through lessons, discussions, and activities across grade levels.
• Storytime & Read-Aloud (Elementary Schools): Students will enjoy stories that celebrate strong,
courageous, and compassionate women who make a difference in their communities.
• Arts & Culture: Students will explore women’s contributions through music, art, poetry, and
storytelling, reflecting creativity and impact across cultures and generations.
• Library Features: Our media centers are showcasing books by and about inspiring women—perfect for students and families to explore together.
• Student Voices (Middle & High Schools): Students will share reflections, artwork, and projects focused on women’s leadership, equity, perseverance, and social impact.
• Celebrate Everywhere: Classrooms, hallways, and community spaces will feature thoughtful displays and student-created work honoring women’s history and achievements.
Spotlighting Leaders & Changemakers
Here are just a few influential women leaders, innovators, artists, and athletes whose stories continue to inspire students of all ages to dream big and lead boldly:
• Rosa Parks – Civil rights icon whose courage sparked lasting change and reminded the world that one voice matters
• Marie Curie – Pioneering scientist whose discoveries transformed medicine and science
• Katherine Johnson – Brilliant mathematician whose work helped send astronauts to the moon
• Malala Yousafzai – Global advocate for girls’ education and the youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate
• Maya Angelou – Poet, author, and activist whose words inspire courage, resilience, and compassion
• Serena Williams – One of the greatest athletes of all time, redefining excellence and strength on and
off the court
• Kamala Harris – First woman and woman of color to serve as Vice President of the United States,
breaking barriers in leadership
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let’s encourage our students to learn with curiosity, reflect with empathy, and celebrate the diverse contributions of women across history and today. These stories remind us that history is still being written—and every student has the power to shape the future.
We are excited to announce that we will lead a group of 7th grade students on a Tour program to Springfield and St. Louis. On this amazing adventure, students will explore our state’s most important historical sites and experience incomparable learning moments. This will be a trip that your child will be talking about for years to come!
Your child will return home excited to tell you about: Visiting our state’s capitol and touring the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. Experience Lincoln’s home and neighborhood and visit his final resting spot. Discover the true meaning of sacrifice when we honor our fallen heroes at Illinois’ war memorials and much more. Explore St. Louis and it’s exciting sites including the Gateway Arch, City Museum, and Six Flags, St. Louis.
