Educational Ramblings
March 2, 2022
Welcome to the “reflection corner” of my library website. Here I will be posting things about what I have been learning, classes I have been taking or any other random thoughts related to education. You can learn a little be more about me on the homepage of my website!
Recently, I decided to start taking classes again, against my better judgment. I really enjoy working toward something and learning new things, but felt very overwhelmed with everything that has happened over the past 2 years with the pandemic. I knew I had to do something to pull myself out of the rut I was in, and this class was the perfect thing. I am just wrapping up my last week of 21st Century Leadership and am actually sad it is over.
This class really pushed me to reflect on the leadership aspects of my position as an LMC Director. Throughout my career, I have planned and participated in many professional development meetings. During this class, we were asked to develop a staff meeting to roll out a new initiative. The layout of the meeting really helped me plan intentional activities that maximized learning and utilized time effectively. Here is what I developed: Faculty Meeting
This class also reminded me how much I need other educators. During this pandemic, I have missed learning from my colleagues. It’s a lonely place in a school when all you do is sit in front of your computer and have minimal face-to-face interaction. I get my energy from being around people! During class, not only did I enjoy interacting with other educators, but I also enjoyed reconnecting with staff members in my building. I loved watching them teach, talking about their teaching practices, and learning how to be a better educator. One assignment really captured this sentiment, Teacher Walk-Throughs. So much can be learned from the teachers within your own building. I developed this FORM and used it to observe 2 of my colleagues. My observations and the conversations that followed reminded me why I love coming to work every day.
Until next time!
