YCC @ Waubonsie Valley High School

On May 17, 2023, the 5th Young Composers Club of Fry Elementary School heard 11 of their own compositions come to life in a live performance/collaborative experience with student musicians from Waubonsie Valley High School!  LET'S GOOO!  For most of these students, these compositions are their first, EVER!   Mr. Duker (band) and Mrs. Silberman (orchestra) generously gave their time and resources to make this event happen.  The recordings and music scores are posted below for your enjoyment.  And, from all the composers at YCC, thank you for watching our recital!

A Mystery

A Mystery FINAL.pdf

"My song is called 'A Mystery', which I got from the way the song sounds, like a mystery. When I was composing 'A Mystery', I wanted to express how some things can be lost but almost found but then lost again. A Mystery is about anything that is lost or gone and someone is trying to look for it, then they almost find it, but can't, but eventually find it. "

A Rabbit and a Meadow

A Rabbit and a Meadow FINAL.pdf

"When composing "A Rabbit and a Meadow," I did not know what I was going to call it or what it was even going to be about.  But that is the beauty of composing: sometimes you have no idea what it is going to be about or represent.  I just started writing.  My first thought for its title was when I listened to it and heard something just running through a meadow to the beat.  That's why the rabbit hops to the bass drum trying to make it home while the bassoon and the trumpet are just background music creating tension.  At the end, I have two whole notes to represent that the rabbit made it home and is safe and sound." - Sidney

Clockwise

Clockwise.pdf

"The inspiration for my song is a clock. When I wrote my song, I started hearing the sounds of a clock, and I thought, "Why not make it backward?".  My point in this song is that if you start something, do it with your own passion and curiosity.  This song includes the violin and viola.  When I created this song, it made me curious.  My main inspiration was the clock because you always look at the clock when you want to know the time.  I wanted to make my composition something that people wanted to hear." -Anushka

Coexistence

Coexistence FINAL FULL.pdf

"When composing 'Co-existence', I felt that I wanted to create harmony between the instruments and also describe what my story is and how I co-exist with other people who I am friends with.  Some interesting details about my song are that every single time you feel a change of section, it is representing my best friends.  Some sections are even doubling to represent two people." - Achyut

The Blues Waves

The Blue Waves FULL.pdf

"The inspiration for Blue Waves came from traveling around the world.

It reminds me when I'm sleeping and listening to the ocean waves."

Triumphant March

Triumphant March.pdf

"The inspiration for 'Triumphant March' comes from the triumphant feeling you get after succeeding or winning. When composing 'Triumphant March', I wanted to express that feeling of success. The drums increasing in the middle of the song represents the tension when you don't know how it will turn out and it all depends on you."
