Climate patterns play a fundamental role in shaping the interconnectedness of the natural ecosystems and the socio-economic cultures of human communities while supporting their lives and livelihoods. The systems embedded in climate, community and environment are interrelated to the extent that a change in one creates ripples and changes into the other. This is a subject of an active interdisciplinary discourse in the backdrop of the current environmental crisis permeating across the prevalent social stratification. It necessitates a thorough understanding of the relationship between climate and community and consequently the roles played by local communities in environmental conservation.
Tackling climate change requires action at all levels of society, from individuals and educators to policymakers and businesses. By fostering awareness, capacity building and innovation in climate change learning help communities and individuals to reduce environmental degradation and effectively adapt to the changing climate. Raising public awareness and capacity building by establishing networks for education and research collaboration is very crucial at this stage of the human life cycle. This interdisciplinary Online Certificate Course in ‘Climate, Community and Conservation (CCC)’ is designed to expand opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate training as well as faculty collaboration across several Colleges and Universities in the country. This course is an attempt to help participants understand and address the impacts of the environmental crisis and empower them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to act as agents of change. With a strong and established Department of Environmental Studies and an active research and learning centre, namely, the Centre for Earth Studies, IndraprasthaCollege for Women is uniquely positioned to expand education and training in this increasingly important area.
