Climate CHANGE: aDAPTATION AND Mitigation

Organised by the Department of Environmental Studies under the aegis of Centre for Earth Studies

26 August – 23 September 2022

Climate change is the defining crisis of our time and it is happening even more quickly than we feared. No corner of the globe is immune from its devastating consequences.Climate change is disrupting national economies, agriculture and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries. As climate change continues, it will likely lead to more frequent and severe natural disasters.Increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events will have widespread devastating impacts on all walks of life. The world needs to be prepared for this change.

Tackling climate change requires action at all levels of society, from individuals and educators to policymakers and businesses. This is high time to opt for climate actions that will reduce emissions and build climate resilience. In fact, methods and technologies that both curb climate change and cope with its impacts already exist. The need of the hour is the dissemination of such information, raising public awareness and capacity building by establishing networks for education and research collaboration. In response to this,we propose to launch an interdisciplinary Online Certificate Course in ‘Climate Change: Adaptation and Mitigation’ to expand opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate training as well as faculty collaboration across several Colleges and Universities in the country. This course is an attempt to help participants understand and address the impacts of the climatechange and empower them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to act as agents of change. With a strong and established Department of Environmental Studies and active research and learning centre, namely, the Centre for Earth Studies, Indraprastha College for Women is uniquely positioned to expand education and training in this increasingly important area.
