Claudio Aguilera
Summary: Originally published in Chile in 2020, this is a brief but poignant look at one boy’s nine kilometer walk to school.
Gabrielle Balkan
Summary: This brightly colored book features a cute little raccoon who is navigating from home, to the park, to the larger city and beyond. Each step of the way features its own map and explains increasingly complex navigational features.
Barbara Rosenstock
Summary: A survey of the five Great Lakes through geological, ecological, and geographical lenses, this book is filled with surprising tidbits. As a drop of water it would take you about three hundred years to travel the distance between the easternmost part of Lake Superior and where the St. Lawrence River meets the ocean!
Grades 3-6 (23-24)
Jennifer Thermes
Summary: This charmingly old-fashioned book is reminiscent of antique postcards, with Iowa represented by an ear of corn and Wisconsin by, of course, a wedge of cheese. While these elements may be stereotypical, Thermes’ sweet and colorful illustrations capture the wonderment of a child’s perspective on our great country and its history.
Cameron Walker
Summary: Broken into 7 regional sections, this large format book highlights the diverse offerings of 41 of our National Monuments.
Grades 3-6 and Highly Recommended (23-24)
DK Publishing
Summary: This reissued series from DK has an old-school vibe and many of the graphics and photos do not appear to have been updated, but it is still very fun and offers loads of information on its topics.
