National Seminar on Scope of Mathematics in Data Science

&

48th Annual Conference of Odisha Mathematical Society

April 10-11, 2021 (Online Mode)

INSTITUTE OF MATHEMATICS AND APPLICATIONS

Objective of the Conference

The aim and objectives of the conference is to bring the young and senior researchers in various fields of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science from both academics and industries in to a single platform to carry out some vibrant and brain storming discussions in exchanging each other’s views and experiences in the domain of Data Science.

Theme of National Seminar

Establishing patterns in a pile of huge data in a quest of optimality, precision, time efficiency, or making smarter decisions amidst diverse information are challenges faced by corporate sector in a world taken over by digital revolution. Data Science is an inter-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from many structural and unstructured-data. The important techniques in use are data mining, machine learning, big data analysis, deep learning, data extraction, and data retrieval. The understanding of various notions of Mathematics and Statistics are the key to analyze the actual phenomena in Data Science and for the implementation of their algorithms.

In the proposed event, emphasis will be given to Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence which are the recent thrust areas of Science and Technology specifically in the field of Data Science. Various case studies generating data ranging from Numbers to Nano-particles, Pandemic, Quantum Computing, Finance, Fluid Dynamics, Natural Language Processing, Social Networks study, etc. will be dealt with in detail. Further, various talks and presentations will be delivered focusing upon the scope, role, and use of Mathematics and Statistics in Data Science. Since now jobs as a Data Scientist are very much demanding both in academics and industries, motivating sessions will be there for graduate students who are interested to pursue a career in Data Science.

The Odisha Mathematical Society (OMS) was founded on 11th September, 1972 (auspicious day of the Ganesh Chaturthi) led by the eminent mathematicians Prof. (Dr.) Ramanath Mohanty, (the then Vice Chancellor of Utkal University) & Prof. (Dr.) Shankar Prasad Mishra, (the then HOD, PG Dept. of Mathematics, Utkal University). It is a registered body and OMS has been serving for the cause of Mathematics, since then.

Aim & Objectives of OMS

To promote and inculcate research in Mathematics. To render suggestions for curriculum reforms in Mathematics from school to University level. To organize annual conferences and symposia. To publish journals periodically on research and teaching of Mathematics. To publish a bilingual periodical (Abhinav Ganita Bichitra) to popularize the subject. To felicitate persons having outstanding contribution for research and teaching of Mathematics. The annual conference of the society is organized in different colleges or University departments of the State upon invitation to the society.

Let us know if you'll be attending! Will be glad to see you here.
