The Orissa Mathematical Society (OMS) was founded on 11th September 1972 (auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi) led by the eminent mathematicians Prof. (Dr.) Ramanath Mohanty, (the then Vice Chancellor of Utkal University) & Prof. (Dr.) Shankar Prasad Mishra (the then HOD, P.G. Dept. of Mathematics, Utkal University). It is a registered body bearing Regd. no. 7203/202 of 1973-74, and OMS has been serving for the cause of Mathematics, since then. As the state name 'Orissa' has been changed to 'Odisha', the Orissa Mathematical Society is written as Odisha Mathematical Society. The 1st Annual Conference of OMS was held in the year 1973.
The theme of the conference is to serve as a backbone of modern math, offering rigorous tools for studying functions, structures & dynamic systems. This provides an initiative to nurture collaboration & inspire new research directions by emphasizing both theoretical innovations and the real-world applications.
The aim and objectives of the International Conference on "Advances in Analysis and its Applications" & 53rd Annual Conference of OMS are to provide an interface for leading researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research ideas in the field of Mathematical Analysis and Applications. It will also provide a single platform to the persons from academia and industry to carry out some vibrant and brainstorming discussions in exchanging each other's views and experiences.
The Institute of Mathematics and Applications was established by the Government of Odisha in the year 1999, vide the Resolution of the Government of Odisha, Science and Technology Department letter no. 368-ST-I (SC) – 159/98 dated 31st May 1999 with wide ranging aims and objectives as notified in the Gazette No. 18, July 23, 1999 / SRAVANA, 1, 1921. The Institute has been registered on 28th March 2000 under provision of Registration of Societies Act 1860 with Registration No. 20851 /187 of 1999-2000. In the last several years since its inception, consistent with its aims and objectives, it has been active in searching and nurturing talents in mathematics by organizing training and interactive camps for successful students in various mathematical Olympiad tests. It has engaged itself in exploring the applicability of mathematical ideas in exotic areas of studies besides its engagement in traditional research in various disciplines of mathematics. At present IMA offers three courses namely B. Sc. (H) in Mathematics and Computing, M. A/M. Sc in Mathematics with Computational Finance and M. A/M. Sc in Mathematics with Data Science.
