National PTA's Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their thoughts, feelings, and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
The theme for the 2025-2026 program year is "I Belong".
Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.
There are some misconceptions about PTSA membership. These falsehoods often prevent parents, family members, and community members from joining an association that helps our children.
“Only moms and teachers need to join PTSA.” A strong, vibrant PTSA needs the support of moms and dads, step-parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers and school staff, students, community members, and business leaders. Anyone who cares about children belongs in PTSA. It is important that we all have a voice in the decision-making process relating to the laws and regulations – whether in the schools or government – that affect children.
“Joining PTSA means I have to volunteer or go to meetings.” You do not have to volunteer or come to meetings to be a member of PTSA! Our PTSA appreciates everyone’s membership, whether or not a member volunteers or participates in meetings, because each member increases PTSA’s ability to advocate for children.
“PTSA membership never expires – I only have to join once.” Each new school year begins a new PTSA membership year. Membership cards are for an annual membership and will remain valid until the end of the school year. Membership is open to parents, grandparents, students, teachers, other staff at Wilcox Elementary School, and all community members.
“I don’t have the time to join PTSA.” We understand your time is valuable. However, it’s your interest in children that counts. If you are unable to support the PTSA with time, please become a member and give your financial support so that the children know that you support our efforts. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your support helps as we develop programs and activities that benefit not only your children but all children!
I have to be an officer or committee chair to join the PTSA. You don’t have to serve on the PTSA board or committee chair. Your presence and support are enough!
I’ll get roped into volunteering if I attend a PTSA meeting. There will be opportunities to help out, but no pressure or judgment here! Come sit, enjoy the interaction with other parents, and take part in what’s happening at your child’s school!
The PTSA is only for stay-at-home parents with nothing else to do. Our PTSA members are family and community members who want to support the students and school. Most members are juggling full or part-time jobs, kids, household chores, bills, sports, and homework, just like you!
My child’s life will be the same whether or not I join the PTSA. Not only does joining the PTSA put you in direct communication with other parents and teachers, but it also shows your child that you are interested and invested in their education experience.
The PTSA has all the help they need. Our PTSA always needs and wants volunteers! If you choose to volunteer, you decide your time commitment.
I have an idea but the PTSA isn’t interested. New ideas are always welcomed! It’s important to keep our PTSA fresh and exciting! You are welcome to write your ideas anonymously on paper, voice them at a meeting, or discuss them privately with any of our PTSA officers or committee heads.
