Community Lessons
Community Lessons are a social recreational activity where students learn how to take care of animals. This community-based offering lets students of all ages and abilities learn how to care for other creatures including horses, chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Through activities like grooming, mucking, leading, feeding, bathing, and socializing with others, participants develop a sense of belonging and identity. All the animals at our Ranch are prey animals, which provides a unique type of interaction. These animals are dependent on their community to help take care of them and are quite sensitive to their environments. This lets students learn their intricacies and preferences while building relationships that feel safe and connected. These sessions are taught by a developmental specialist who modifies activities and environments to be safe and appropriate for clients of all abilities.Â
