A Challenge should be considered a “Deed of Arms”, something worthy of note, of story and song.
Minimum challenge requirements:
In its most basic form the Pas D’Armes is one fighter holding the field against all comers.
There are many other forms this challenge may take. See “The Book of Gytha” on the Dawn Company website for more ideas.
A Challenge should equate to a “Deed of Arms”. This is open to interpretation, discuss this with your Guardian(s) and other members of the Company.
More information and clarification can be had by emailing the Primus:
dc@insulaedraconis.org
The following minimum conditions must be met for the challenge to be valid:
15 mins of combat for Yeoman and be in possession of (1) Company mark
30 mins of combat for Sergeant and be in possession of (5) Company marks
45 minutes of combat for Vingtenaur and be in possession of (10) Company marks
60 minutes of combat for Centenaur and be in possession of (20) Company marks
Alternative challenges such as combat at the barriers, team combats or other challenges are permissible as long as the guardian(s) agree that the proposed challenges meet the minimum standards worthy of the rank. If there is a dispute, the Primus has final say.
The Challenge Process:
Before the Challenge:
The Challenger must contact one or more sponsors (Guardians) and agree on a challenge format worthy of the rank they are challenging for. One Guardian is sufficient if the Guardian is of a higher rank than the challenger.
The Challenger should also indicate who will be the Herald, or Deputy who will keep a record of this challenge.
N.B. More challenge format examples can be found in the Book of Gytha.
Once the format and personel are agreed, the challenger submits their challenge via this webform.
Announcing the Challenge:
The Chronicler takes the challenge information submitted via the Challenge Webform and publishes it on social media, mailing lists and the Dawn Company website at least one month before the event at which the challenge will take place. The Challenger and their Guardian(s) may decide to promote this challenge themselves; To save duplication of effort, please make sure the Chronicler is informed of the challenge and is notified that they need not announce this particular challenge.
N.B. Challenges must happen at a single event. They can happen over several days, but it must be at the same event.
The Challenge:
The Chronicler, a Herald or other Deputy must record the challenge. The details of which will later be written into The Great book of Gytha.
N.B. It is the challengers responsibility to make sure that the details and deeds of their challenge are recorded.
If at all possible, make sure that the challenge is read out and successful challenges confirmed in court at the same event.
After the Event:
The Chronicler, Herald or Deputy, reports back to the Dawn Company with words of the great deeds of arms of the successful noble.
The Chronicler will add the latest Deeds of Arms to The Great book of Gytha.
The Scribe will then update the rankings accordingly.
