PROGRAMA GEP
GENERACIÓ PLURILINGÜE
GENERACIÓ PLURILINGÜE
Institut Montserrat Colomer 2018-2026

CURS 2024-2025
On April 9th, the school celebrated English Day with a gymkhana event involving 1st and 2nd ESO students. They took part in various challenges, all conducted in English. The activities included enjoyable exercises related to Science, Technology, Physical Education and English. After successfully completing each test, they had to find a clue essential for finishing the final task. It was an amazing day filled with lots of fun!
PSYCHOLOGY ELECTIVE 1st BATX
1) THE FREUDIAN MIND: A PUZZLE
Students had to place, cut out the drawings on the left and put them in the diagram on the right, playing with the unconditioned, neutral and conditioned stimuli and responses. In the speech bubbles, Pavlov explains what is done in each of the three steps of the experiment; the students also have to write some funny comments about what the dog is thinking.
2) PRINCIPLES OF BEHAVIOURISM: PAVLOV’S DOGS
There are two digital copies of the Freudian mind theory puzzle (one with the whole text and the other with only the main names of the parts), and a sheet with the sentences needed to fill in the empty blanks in the second puzzle. Some of the sentences refer to mind contents and their difficulty at being recalled (conscious, preconscious, unconscious) and the remaining sentences are related to inner activities performed by the three parts which form the mind as a whole (id, ego, superego). To work in groups.
PROGRAMMING ELECTIVE 1st BATX
AI AN ETHICS: CHALLENGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Through English-based activities and collaborative dynamics, students have explored the social and ethical impacts of artificial intelligence ranging from privacy and algorithmic bias to corporate responsibility in the tech sector. With this initiative, we aim to foster critical thinking, collaborative work, and communication skills in foreign languages, while addressing current issues that directly shape our future.
SOCIAL ISSUES ELECTIVE 1st BATX
The students have studied the correlations existing between social problems, public policies, racial discrimination and their impact on popular culture using the public figure of the infamous hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur as an example. They worked on the content of rap lyrics in English, relating them to the social problems in Black neighborhoods during the 1990s. Moreover, they watched the film Menace II Society in its original version.
ECONOMICS ELECTIVE 4th ESO
FINANCIAL HEALTH: DISCOVERING EQUITIES
In this learning situation, students have understood the importance of saving throughout life as well as the various options for investing saved money in order to obtain returns. We have used the English language to carry it out, since English predominates in the world of finance, thus bringing the real world closer to the classroom.
PHILOSOPHY ELECTIVE 4th ESO
TOWARDS A RATIONAL ATTITUDE IN LIFE
Astrology claims to be a science. To put astrology to the test, we designed an experiment.
We used the horoscopes of the twelve zodiac signs for a particular week taken from an astrology website and made sure that the subjects who would participate in the experiment didn't know them. During the first class after that week, we delivered the twelve predictions to the subjects plus a list with some personality traits attributed to each zodiac sign but, and this is the cornerstone of the experiment, without the name of the zodiac signs on them. They had to choose blindly the prediction that better matched with his or her experiences in the previous week. After that, we checked whether the selected predictions and personality traits matched with the prediction for the actual sign of the subject according to his or her date of birth. What do you think? Were the predictions accurate?
The experiment and its results were both enlightening and fun.
BIOLOGY AND GEOLOGY 3rd ESO
DESIGNING A HEALTHY MENU FOR DIFFERENT DIETARY NEEDS
In 3rd ESO, in the subject of Biology, a learning situation was developed in English in which students designed a healthy menu adapted to different dietary conditions (such as celiac disease, anaemia, obesity or intolerances like lactose intolerance). Based on the contents of the human body apparatus and systems and nutrition, students drew up a reasonable proposal and presented it orally in English, reinforcing scientific vocabulary and the use of conditionals.
ENGLISH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROJECT 2nd ESO
BODY TELLING
This second term, the 2nd ESO students have worked in groups to carry out the "Body Telling" project. This project involves collaboration between English and Physical Education to create a story that can be expressed through human figures. In English, they invent an imaginative story using the past tense, emotions, and adjectives. In Physical Education, they work on building pyramids with two, three, four, five, and six people. Finally, everything comes together in a fantastic performance!
SCIENCE ELECTIVE 2nd ESO
AROMATIC AND MEDICINAL HERBS FROM BAIX LLOBREGAT
In the elective subject Discovering our environment (“Descobrint el nostre entorn”), in 2nd ESO, students participated in a learning situation focused on local biodiversity and the traditional uses of plants in Baix Llobregat. They researched the properties of local medicinal and aromatic plants and gave an oral presentation with visual support (computer graphics, presentation, etc.). At the end of the project, they made a practical soap with real plants related to the properties studied. The possibility was offered of carrying out the presentation in English, and some students took advantage of this option to practise scientific vocabulary in a real communicative context.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2nd ESO
VOLLEYBALL
During the first term, the students worked on the volleyball unit. In this unit, they practiced different skills necessary to play matches, such as the set (finger pass), the bump (forearm pass), spike, underhand serve, and overhand serve. To be able to play the matches, they also learned how to rotate after each point and the scoring system. They had a great time competing against each other.
SCIENCE 1st ESO
TECTONIC PLATES
In Science we’ve worked on Plate Tectonics using an active and innovative methodology.
Students had the chance to take part in fun, engaging, and contextualized activities in an environment outside the classroom, which encouraged social interaction. And all of it in English!
