What genre do you think this is?
Read the following information and answer the questions.
Film Noir
These films are called Film Noir. The main character is usually a Private Eye (a detective) and there is always a voice-over narrator that introduces the scene.
The voice-over narration represents what the detective is thinking. It explains what the situation is and what is happening. Here is an example:
“It was a cold winter afternoon and I had planned to leave work early and spend time with a couple of friends. The case was closed and the office was quiet. I was getting ready to leave when there was a knock on the door and a tall man came into the office. He seemed worried. He was wearing a long jacket, a black hat and sunglasses. He sat in front of me and he demanded my services. He was a journalist and he was writing an article about a famous city gangster. He was convinced that two men were following him and that they were planning on murdering him. The terror in his eyes proved he was telling the truth.”
