Blind Man Driving
I took Mr. Stuckey's stems and mixed them from left to right. This allowed me to separate the tracks audio-wise to the person listening. I then added a limiter on top of three of the tracks. The limiter allowed me to keep the sound levels on those tracks to a minimum.
I enjoyed being able to take an already good song and perfect it. I also enjoyed being able to work on a song written by a blind person, as it allowed me to see songwriting from a different perspective. I enjoyed finishing the year with an entirely new (to me) way of making music.
J Dilla style sampling
I took 2 drum beat kits for this piece and recorded 2 samples on each. I then looked at Ableton's simpler, which is kind of a simple sampler. I chose a set with 'C1' in it and placed it on a track. I then sampled 2 beats, being careful to record them to the same beat as the drum beats on that level. I then added some shout-outs from Raiders of the Lost Ark. I then mixed each track right to left and recorded the piece. Afterward, I added automation to the tracks, allowing the listener to hear the song change over this period of time.
I learned that sampling is an easy way to take the essence of another artist's work while also honoring them in the process. When I learned about De La Soul and their misadventures with copyright, it further convinced me that we desperately need a change in copyright law. I learned how to edit clips into my music productions.
Hypnotic art
I began by viewing the base video in order to determine exactly how to go about creating the tracks. I then timed each of the sections in order to know exactly how long to loop my tracks. I then arpeggiated each of the tracks to make them sound more interesting.
I enjoyed choosing the instruments for each track. I enjoyed being able to work in a visual format, as opposed to being confined to just audio. Lastly, I also enjoyed choosing a specific track to go with the 'frequency' of the spiraling sand.
Future Actions Past
I began by making a drum track out of an 808, using the lofi beat technique. I then selected a light sounding instrument because it would fit the lofi aesthetic better. I then decided to add music and I then mixed the tracks left to right. I then recorded the song on the Ableton, changing the audio levels as needed.
I enjoyed making lofi, which is a type of music I was not accustomed to making. I also enjoyed the calming nature of the music, as it is in the style of music I normally listen to. I felt more creative freedom while making this song for some reason, and it gave me great pleasure in seeking a piece of music that would fit the lofi genre.
Fix the Mix
I began by mixing the track left and right. I then humanized the MIDI tracks in order to make them sound more natural. I then added effects to the mix in order to change the sound quality.
I learned that it is hard to edit a number of tracks that someone else has left for you to edit. I also learned that the game is probably a shooting type of game. Searching for the effects turned out to be harder than I thought.
Dancing While Late to the Airport
I began by sampling each of the tracks. I then mixed the tracks from left to right. I then selected the tracks I liked the best. I then played them in an order that would be most pleasing to me.
I enjoyed being able to display my take on the tracks I was presented with. Other people would have probably edited these tracks in a different manner, however, I chose to do it in my very particular style. I also enjoyed being able to sample each of the sets of tracks to choose the grouping I liked the best.
Considering Your Options
I began by sampling each of the tracks. I then mixed the tracks from left to right. I then selected the tracks I liked the best. I thought that I should attempt to give off a mysterious vibe in the song, so I played the tracks accordingly.
I enjoyed being able to make my own style for the song I made. I also enjoyed being able to make a song while having full control over which tracks I could put into the song. I liked the fact that the resulting song was satisfactory and pleasant to listen to.
