Blind Man Driving (1).wav

I added a compressor to the bass and drum tracks. I also put limiters on the tracks which I wanted to minimize such as the vocals. This left the tracks I wanted to emphasize. I also further limited the maximum volume for the horns and the keys in order to bring out the guitar and vocals.

I learned that improving a piece of music is far, far easier than fixing a bad mix. I also learned that decreasing the volumes of the tracks I want to de-emphasize is a complicated process. Above all, I learned how to work with stems that were received from another musician.

Dilla.wav

I first recorded some bass tracks and played that out for 90 measures. Then I went to fesliyan Studios and obtained two tracks. One was a "Silly Bank Heist" track which, along with the SoftChord warping I added, was instrumental in compounding the vibe of spaced outness. Another fesliyan studios track I added was a undercover spy track which further added to the vibe I was going for. I then exported the audio.

I learned how not to overstretch a song in Ableton. I also learned what a fun process it is to attempt to find fun tracks to fit a theme. I learned what attributing an artist in a song truly means. I learned to balance out the audio of the different tracks so that one does not overpower the other.

My Video.mp4

I first watched the video and determined the lengths necessary for 3 songs. I then strung together repeating segments of a set pattern in each song and uploaded it to WeVideo. I put the audio and video into the timeline and hit finish.

I learned how to combine audio and video in WeVideo. I learned how to effectively repeat segments and increase tempo to change the mood of the music.

Ascending.mp3

I first put a drum beat in. I then played it out for a few seconds. After that I copied it several times. Then I put in a Grand Piano and did the same as with the drum beat. I then went to Fesliyan Studios and downloaded the "Ascending" track and played that out the same.

I learned how easy it is to make lo-fi tracks.

Sample Project 5.mp3

I first picked Sample project 5 in the Ableton folder. I then spent some time playing around with the tracks until I found ones that were conducive to a good sound. I first played the Veda Dirty track, then the Coral Sub. I then played the Glimpse Dirty after which I played the fuchsia tabla. I then immediately stopped it and played the coral tabla. While the Coral Table was still playing, I played the Veda World Track and switched over to the Swirl Glitch. While the Veda World Track was playing, I played the Glimpse Dirty Track. After that I ended the song with another Coral Sub.

I learned how to move the panning live while it is being recorded. I also learned how to play one track and play another to mix it up better than I knew before within the same recording. I learned properly which browser to use to upload a photo on the Mac.

Fix_The_Mix__C_minor__76_bpm (1).mp3

I first added hype vox to the Delay Piano and the acid synth to the Fuzzy Bass. I then added the Psych Vox to the Guitar 1. I added another track of a free sound effect called "Haunted Memories." I humanized many of the tracks, so that it doesn't sound like a robot is playing it. I deleted some of the Reverb Flute parts because they came in at inappropriate times sometimes.

I learned that there is a free sound effect library for musicians.  I also learned how painful it can be for a musician to just leave a studio with a work half finished. I learned that it is hard trying to match a piece of music to a game or movie.

I first added in effects to all of the tracks. I put a space maker effect on the Lead guitar, then a BL Driver and Digi Comp on the Bass. I then put EQs on every track. I moved the Acoustic Grand Piano forward to match with the leads.

I learned that the tracks are hard to balance in terms of volume. The Bass came out too loud because I had adopted a static volume for that track but decreasing volume for the other tracks, increasing the dominance of the bass. The leads don't always match up to the rest of the tracks, which can muddle the sound.

The_Bouncy_Dance.mp3

I first added some drum beats. I then added in "Synth Loop Glory Poly" and split that into 4-measure segments. I made each of those 4 measures different. For the 2 different ones, I got the Drill Trap Bass, Saxophone Jazz and the Lofi Bass on the track. I then added in the "Accordion Jam Accordion" and did the same, splitting the Pack into 4. For the other 3 it is Bounce Bass, 3AM Bass and Magic Time Bass. Next I added in the Accordian Jam Hi-Hats and split it into 4. The other 3 tracks were Accordian Jam Bass, Breeze Theme Bass and Hurricane Synth. The other 5 tracks are CL4Pack_120_Cm_Stems4_PNO,  Songstarter Loop Glory Bbmin, Bmaj Guitar (Before which is Drums1 and Bounce Bass 4), Drums_Exposed1_84_2Bars, C#min Bass. I panned all of them to different sides and finished. I automated the volume and played with fading and increasing the volume.

I learned how hard it can be for all the elements of a song to come together and sound good. The right jazzy bits were hard to find, but were well worth it in the end. The mood is constructed from the song so the song is the framework by which a feeling can be gleamed. I learned that the right key is especially important.
