In this project I created a remix of the song "Blind Man Driving" by Joey Stuckey. Joey Stuckey is a blind man who wrote this song about a relationship. In this song he says multiple times "loving you is like a blind man driving" basically saying that its a bad idea. I took the samples and recordings of each peice in the song and spread them out using pan and volume to give a front to back and left to right affect. Then, I used a multiband + limiter to create a top to bottom sensation. When I added these all together it made a pyramid of sound with the lower instuments on the bottom and the higher instuments on top. The panning and volume made it sound like they were on stage.
In this project I learned how to use a multiband + limiter to change the way the music sounds. This device made the things I wanted to be louder stick out instead of just turning up the volume completely. It gave a very pure sound to all of the instuments. I also learned how to give height using this device to makemy pyramid of sound.
In this project i created a peice of music based off of Dilla. Dilla was an inspiration and influence to the Hip Hop community. He made peices of music out of samples. We did this in our project. We started by finding different samples of regular instuments and putting them in one column. Then we added a new column with samples that has unique instuments. Just like Dilla we found instuments that people wouldnt hear much. After we had the original and unique samples we would combine them to make new intersting sounds. After we created this we added a bass out of one heavy sound and one unique sound but the same rythm. We finally added samples of sounds such as a zipper or a pig oinking to throw into the sound. We remixed all of these together to create a combination of unique and new sounds with sounds that everyone knows.
In this project i learned how to remix sounds together and make sounds more appealing to peoples ears. I also learned how Dilla created his music and the background behind his music. I learned how to blend different sounds together and create a bass that matched them. I also learned how to thicken a bass by making the same beat 2 times but having a different type of bass on both.
In this project I created a remix to the Doctor Who theme song which was created by Delia Derbyshire. I took the exact notes on the normal sample of the song and put them in Live. Then, I made a new midi track of both the melody and bass. On the new midi tracks i put in a different sound. For the bass I used a baby goat and for the melody I used the pecking of a humming bird. After, I added the sample sounds to the song, I needed to make it sound good. I did this by paning out the sound changing the volume levels throughout the sound. Finally, I used a sound effect which pinched the audio to make it sound like it was recorded in a different world.
In this project i learned how to use the sound effects and how to make different types of pitches and tunes out of the same exact sounds. I also learned how to record the main part of the sound and then go back in and edit using the Adobe push. Using the adobe push I was able to focus on each section of the song at once. This allowed me to change all the pans when i wanted to and all the volumes at a different recording.
In this project I made multiple pieces on Ableton Live off of a Adobe push. I started with the sample sounds as a starting point and meshed them together how I wanted to create the piece. In this I started with different sample songs across the Push and started putting them together to make a song. I made a bunch of different variations with my favorites of the sample songs. After i made the variations of the songs I would choose my favorite based off of the flow and how it sounded. In my first sample song it was based off the Harry Coade Found Sound Push set. I went through all the sample beats and chose my favorites to start the song. After that I chose to change the beats to other and differ the flow and pan to create a piece. I did this for a lot of trials then chose my favorites for all the Pieces above.
In this project I learned how to use Ableton Live and Ableton push. On Ableton I was able to create pan and volume by using the master notch and the notches above the columns. I also learned how to connect the Live system to the Push and make music on the push instead. Finally, I learned how to record and find my way around Ableton.
In the "Fix the Mix" project I took a piece that was not finished or edited and tried to turn it into a video game song. I first started by taking the 3 main parts of the song and turning them into something that flowed together. The 3 main parts of this song were the Fuzzy Bass, Electric Piano, and Synth Chords. I started with the Fuzzy Bass and changed it to a Piano that was put at a lower octive and made a little more subtle. Then I Made the electric piano a guitar and put it at a higher octive and tried to bring it out in the music a lot. Finally, I changed the synth chords to synth pads and made it subtle in the song. After, I edited the main parts of the songs I started to change all of the backgrounds by changing the guitar and shakers parts out for other tracks. Then when all of the music set I added EQ, pan, and reverb to all of the pieces to bring the music out and make it more alive.
In this Project I learned how to focus on a main part and work around them to make the piece sound good. I also learned how to put sound affects in the music. I used Fesliyan studios to download the clips and put them into the music to make it like a real video game. Finally I learned how to use Reverb to make sound come out more and make it sound like its echoing in different locations.
In this project I constructed a piece of music representing many different types and different styles of music. I started using loops for each instrument and creating a flow by using 2 loops and alternating them. After I created a flow then I was able to allow my music to sound like its on a stage. I used pan pot to help me interact with ears by moving the music left and right like it would be on a stage. On the stage I had my drums in the middle, the bass all the way to the left and the woodwinds in-between the bass and drums. On the right I had my piano and guitar between piano and drums. By using these it helps create the effect of a band. Then, I gave the music depth by using the volume fader and adjusting where everything was on the stage. I put the drums in the back and made a triangle shape surrounding the drums. Finally, I was able to use EQ to bring out different parts of the music and make the music sound more full.
In this project I learned how to make the music come alive. I was taught to give the music a nice flow and keep the listener engaged by mixing the music up every 4 measures. Next, I used the pan pot feature to engage the ears and make the ears work and figure out where everything is. Also, I learned how to make depth in the song and overlay sounds and make them blend together better by using the volume fader. Finally I learned how to used the Eq to bring out my music and make it sound more full.
