Collaboration matters   Excellence in everything   Community first   Equity for everyone   Continuous growth

It has been a positive week to end a busy half-term. We have seen some excellent learning and the children have had superb enrichment experiences across the term. Children across the school have participated in football tournaments, attended museums, had visitors come in to support learning about scientists, beekeepers and healthy relationships and seen an orchestra at Royal Festival Hall. We have also embraced charity events such as Comic Relief and had a wonderful Woodhill Iftar.

This week our Year 1 children have attended St Thomas church to learn about the Easter story and a group of Year 4 children have participated in a dance experience at the Tramshed in Woolwich.

This week, we say goodbye to Mrs Morton who after almost 7 years at Woodhill moves on having secured a promotion in a Kent school. I am sure that you will join us in wishing her all the best.

Have a great Easter break and I look forward to seeing you all back at Woodhill on Monday 15th April.

Chrome Book Initiative

The Inspire Partnership Academy Trust is thrilled to introduce a potential new initiative: a 1:1 Chromebook programme for all Year 3 and 4 pupils (current Year 2 and 3 pupils) starting September 2024. This programme would equip each student with a Chromebook for learning and exploration, both at school and home. Going forward, this would then apply to all pupils as they enter Year 3.

Equipping Young Minds for the Future

We believe Chromebooks will empower our students in several ways:

·         Empowering Learning: Chromebooks open doors to innovative learning experiences, fostering creativity, study skills, and exploration.

·         Equal Opportunities: Every pupil will have the chance to engage with the digital world, fostering inclusivity and technological literacy.

·         Ownership Opportunity: After a small monthly fee spread over three years, your child gets to keep their Chromebook, promoting a sense of responsibility and continued learning beyond the programme.

Making it Affordable

We understand the importance of affordability. Through collaboration with leading IT suppliers, we've secured a budget-friendly monthly payment plan, estimated at approximately £3.50 per week for three years.

We Value Your Feedback

Your input is crucial. To ensure a successful launch and cater to your needs, we kindly ask you to complete a short survey included in this form https://forms.gle/zyZXs2sLvDqA5MzJ6.

The survey addresses potential concerns and helps us refine our product selection and pricing structure.

Building a Future-Ready Generation

We firmly believe this 1:1 Chromebook programme will equip our pupils with the tools and skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We look forward to partnering with you in making this initiative a reality.

What we have learned this week

Year 2 - In year 2 we have been doing our big write in English and we have published our final outcome. The topic of our published work is based on our coretext ' Starbird' and what it feels like to be free from the cage and out in the world.

In Maths we have been exploring Millilitres and litres, when we use such measurements and trying to put into context the key vocabulary: Volume and Capacity.

In Art we have been drawing, sketching and shading starbird and using a wash background to create a final published piece.

In RE we have been learning all about Christianity and finishing our journey on debating the ten commandments and choosing which one is the most important in their lives

Year 5 - This week Year 5 have been publishing their monologues, written in role as Leonard, the narrator of Windrush Child, by Benjamin Zephaniah. The children then practised performing them by focussing on the physical strand of the oracy framework, using prosody, facial expression and gesture to convey Leonard's emotions. Ava said, "It's important not to use too much gesture, as you can overdo it".  In art, the children have been sculpting with clay, inspired by the creator of the Windrush statue at Waterloo station, Basil Watson. They first made an armature from tin foil, before adding clay to form a human figure. In PE the children are continuing to enjoy their tag rugby sessions every Thursday with the coach from Blackheath Rugby Club. In French, Y5 are starting to describe the planets using their knowledge of colours and adjectives of size, as well as descriptions like gaseous or rocky. They have consolidated their knowledge of adjectival agreement for feminine and masculine nouns. In science, Y5 researched the famous biologist, Sir David Attenborough, and created fact files about him.
