Collaboration matters   Excellence in everything   Community first   Equity for everyone   Continuous growth

Message from the Headteacher

It has been a busy final week with our LKS2 and UKS2 performances starting off the week. It was great to see the children perform and sing with such passion and vibrancy; it was clear that their performances were full of joy.  Then our Christmas fair took place on Wednesday with Santa's grotto attracting hundreds of visitors. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the fair a success. Aside from the festive activities, a group of 25 Y6 children also continued their 'Pathways to Professions' workshops which this week culminated in a visit to the Blueprint for all business offices in the Stephen Lawrence centre in Deptford. They have focussed on the skills and attitudes needed to be successful not only in the world of work but also at school. At the end of last week, our boys took part in the EFL Utilita cup and performed brilliantly and reached the semi finals. Also our girls team remain unbeaten following the first 5 fixtures of their league season. They are proving incredibly hard to beat with a 1-0 win, 1-1 draw and three 0-0 draws. We look forward to seeing how they continue their season when they return in the new year.

Until then, from all of us at Woodhill, we wish you a wonderful break and look forward to seeing you in the new year.

After School Clubs - Spring Term 2024

We are pleased to offer the following after school clubs during the Spring Term (Monday 15th January – Thursday 28th March 2023).

Following valuable parental feedback to expand our extracurricular activities, we have organised for outside specialists to come into school and offer some new and exciting clubs for the children to join.  We have subsidised the costs for these clubs to make them more affordable for you. However, we are confident that the modest price will not deter you from booking these compelling activities.

To ensure that we maximise attendance at all clubs, for this term we will charge £12 per block (less than £2 per session.)  If you have any questions about this, please speak to a member of the office staff or Leadership team.

All after school clubs will be open for live bookings on Thursday 21st December from 10am. We urge you to check you know your Arbor login details before this and will close once all spaces have been allocated via Arbor.

Please log onto your Arbor account to book your child into one of the clubs.

After School Club Table - Spring Term 2024

FareShare Market

Recently, our Friends of Woodhill and staff have been collecting parent and pupil voice on ways they can help improve at Woodhill. Lots of feedback gained was around our FareShare Market on a Friday.

While we understand that it is a staple of our community, we want to ensure that as many people as possible are able to access it fairly.

While we always seek to support our community in any way we can, we would like to remind everyone of the principles of the Fareshare market. The school pays a set fee each year to the Fareshare charity and as a result, we then receive the variety of consumable goods and items which you see on a Friday.

The rationale is then that members of the community pay a fare to receive some of the items and that we hold in mind that we would like everyone to have the option to access the Fareshare market. Please be considerate of others on Fridays and be balanced in what you take and please do continue to support the charity; any funds made that exceed what Woodhill pay for the service go into the school fund and support us to provide prizes and food at other events such as World cafe, the summer and winter fairs.

Please continue to access the Fareshare market and give what you can and take fairly so that as many members of the community as possible can continue to access this provision. Thank you for your continued support.

Lost Property / Valuables

We will have a lost property stall in the playground at 3.15 on Friday 21st December, any unclaimed item will be disposed off during the half term.

Can we also remind parents not to send children into school with expensive clothing as children often misplace their belongs and the school accepts no responsibility for any lost belongs, this is the responsibility of your child to ensure they look after their property. To support with this please can you ensure all children's clothing is labelled with their names.

Absence from School procedure

If your child is absent from school, please ensure you follow this guidance: -

Correct Uniform

PE Uniform

As with expectations around the Woodhill School uniform, please may we urge you to stick to plain white or black t-shirt with black shorts and joggers for PE uniform.  We will not be permitting football style shirts, or coloured logo tracksuits and trainers.

If you would like to discuss anything about our PE lessons or uniform expectations, please do contact the School office via telephone or email on info@woodhill.greenwich.sch.uk

School Uniform Expectations

As the Autumn Term draws to an end, we would like to remind the community of our expectations for uniform at Woodhill Primary School to ensure all children return in January with the correct uniform.  We ask that parents and carers ensure all items of clothing are labelled appropriately with your child’s name.

What we have learned this week

Year 1 - Year One have had a very busy but very fun time in the lead up to the Winter Break!

They have spent a lot of time practicing songs for the nativity, learning the words and working together to make dance moves for each song. They especially loved On The Road To Bethlehem which could be heard around the KS1 block for the weeks leading up to it!

Before they showed our nativity production to their grown ups, they treated the residents of Time Court to a special preview of the songs as a Year group, singing their specific class songs plus all the joint songs, complete with tinsel crowns. They then asked the residents to join them in singing ‘Jingle Bells’ and the residents really made this come to life with their very own jingle bells that Year One had brought with them! They then treated us to their very own rendition of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ which Year One loved. Then it was time to show their grown ups the Nativity which included all the classes from Year One and Two. They loved singing our songs in front of our parents and carers and hoped the parents and carers loved it as much as Key Stage One did performing it! Bryant said ‘I loved the singing!’

Then, Year One had great fun creating some special and original Christmas cards to go on sale at the school’s Christmas fair with our very own Art Amy! They used A5 polystyrene cards and pencils to make designs such as reindeer and baubles to print onto card, which they then decorated with glitter! They also used their mark making skills to make patterns when they overlaid with silhouettes. Olivia said ‘I had to be really careful not to go through the polystyrene so I only pressed gently at first!’

To round off the week, Year One had a very special visit from Liz, a lady from a local church who told them all about what the church did and why this time of year was important to Christians as part of their RE topic of Christanity. The children asked their own question, with Andrea asking ‘what’s your favourite Christmas hymn’ - Hark the Herald Angels Sing was the answer!

Finally, they have been finishing off the term by creating junk model buildings based on the core text of this half term, Island Born. They looked at pictures in the book and talked about the shapes and the colours they could see and had a go at making their own.

Year One would like to wish all the grown ups and children of Woodhill a restful and lovely break!

Year 4 -  It has been an exciting couple of weeks in year 4! Last Thursday, the children went on a trip to Greenwich to an Ice skating rink, they got to experience the festive season. Children were excited to skate around to christmas music and get into the Chritmas spirit! Juniper class were thrilled when they saw the ice rink - Elissa “ I can't believe I can balance on ice! Doyin “i skated around the whole circle it was so much fun!”

In their learning this week, year 4 have been showcasing their learning by creating a double page,we have been using creative and prior knowledge to spread their learning. The learning focused on creating and presenting a text that is visually appealing for the reader. Year 4 have also spent the past few weeks practicing songs for the Christmas concert! They sang their hearts out and we are ever so proud of all their hard work!
