Collaboration matters Excellence in everything Community first Equity for everyone Continuous growth
It has been a busy week at Woodhill with the children really getting to grips with their learning for this half-term. Children have been eager to talk about their learning and share their experiences with leaders across the school. Mr Smalley took a group of Y3/4 girls to a football tournament on Tuesday and they had the best time, demonstrating kindness and respect as well as considerable collaboration at the event. Each of them received a participation medal which they were thrilled with. Our Y3 children went on their river walk linked to their Geography learning and felt the fresh spring breeze as they observed life on the river. It has also been great to have parents in school for the reading stay and learn open mornings this week and to see many parents engage with the travelling book fair. Over the next week there are a number of exciting events planned in school including book swaps, dress up day and workshops.
From all of us, I hope you have a great weekend and see you next week.

What we have learned this week
Catkins - In Catkins class we have been enjoying the song five little ducks watching them splash in bubbing eater and repeating some words. The children have enjoyed our new space man projector light during sensory time and watching and observing the colours and lights while looking at the sensory dance fruit videos. Our book of the term is 'Don't worry little crab' and the children have enjoyed Miss Steph reading it to them with all the actions and difference voices.
Year 3 - In Year 3, students have been learning about the roles of mathematicians within space programs, inspired by our core text "Hidden Figures." The children have been examining themes such as equality and perseverance and creating imaginative journeys to space, enriching their narratives with space-related vocabulary and descriptive language.
Meanwhile, in RE, our focus has been on Islam and its lunar calendar. The children have been learning about the significance of Ramadan, including the reasons for fasting, the importance of this holy month, and the traditions surrounding breaking the fast.
In Geography this half term, Year 3 are exploring where rivers come from, focusing on the River Thames. They've been identifying key features such as the source, mouth, meanders, tributaries, estuaries, and river banks. The children were excited to bring their learning to life during a river walk, where they observed these features firsthand and even caught a glimpse of the Woolwich Ferry in action.
Year 6 - This week, Year 6 have continued to immerse themselves in their core text 'The Other Side of Truth' by writing a newspaper article on chrome books in role as one of the characters. In maths, they have enjoyed learning about angles; they have discovered how many degrees there are on a straight line, around a point and in shapes such as quadrilaterals and triangles. In geography they have been learning about how Africa has changed over time because of the African Scramble and enjoyed a Dodgeball game in PE.
