We will be inspired to create a narrative based on our new core text of 'Paddington'. We will be thinking about linking our Global theme of 'Human rights' to explore that everyone has a right to be safe and have a home. The children will be developing their writing skills through writing setting descriptions and narratives.
This half term, we will be learning about place value. We will count and partition numbers to 100, identify numbers on a number line and compare and order numbers. We will then be counting in 2's, 5's and 10's. After this we will be focusing on addition and subtraction, number bonds to 10 and to 100 by identifying patterns and to add and subtract one from a given number.
We will be learning about living things and their habitat. During the half term, we will be identifying, grouping and classifying all objects which are lliving, non-living and have never been alive. This will help us to identify the living and non-living things in a habitat and what these items need to survive to live in that habitat.
In geography we are going to be working towards answering the assessment question; Why does London attract so many tourists each year? The children will think about what London has to offer to tourists and what are the different features.
We will be learning about online safety and the uses of information technology in school and beyond.
In RE will explore how different people and groups mark and celebrate special occasions. We will learn about a range of religious and non-religious celebrations and consider the meanings behind them. We will identify the symbols, rituals, and traditions used in these events and understand how they bring communities together. Through this, we will recognise how special occasions help express identity, belief, and shared values.
In PE, we will be exploring gymnastics. We will develop an awareness of obstacles and how to avoid them as well as balancing, jumping and travelling to create a sequence. This will then lead to how we combine movements both on and off the apparatus.
This half term, Year 2 are exploring famous London landmarks through mixed-media art. Inspired by Theo Michael and Michael Tompsett, the children are using viewfinders and tracing paper to spot geometric shapes, practicing pencil shading for fine architectural details, and experimenting with vibrant primary-color sponge painting. They will combine these techniques to create striking, textured landmark drawings and celebrate their work with a peer gallery walk!
We will be focusing on identifying different musical instruments in a variety of songs, and also comparing and contrasting different styles of music. We are using the online platform Charanga.
This half term, Year 2 are learning how to look after their physical and mental well-being. Through fun, practical lessons, the children are exploring how staying active makes them feel, why good sleep and bedtime routines matter, and how dental care keeps their teeth healthy. They are also discovering how nutritious food and drink energise both body and mind, putting all their learning together to design their very own healthy daily routine
