Although this week has been a short four-day week, it has been full of energy and productivity! It has been a joy to see our classrooms buzzing with learning, laughter, and creativity. Our children have been fully engaged, demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication across all subjects, from reading and writing to science and teamwork activities. Their curiosity and excitement as they dive into their lessons and make progress in their learning journey is truly inspiring.
This week has highlighted just how much our pupils are growing, not only academically but also as confident and kind individuals. Whether they’re sharing ideas with their peers, asking thoughtful questions, or expressing themselves in creative ways, the passion for learning shines through in every year group. We are incredibly proud of the effort and energy the children bring to school each day.
On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Chartwells to Rockliffe Manor for an exciting and educational healthy eating workshop for our Year 1 and Year 6 children. During the session, our young learners had the chance to taste a variety of delicious and nutritious foods while learning about balanced meals and how to create plates that are both tasty and healthy. The children eagerly used words like 'sweet,' 'sour,' and 'delicious' to describe the flavours they tried. It was a flavorful adventure that not only expanded their palates but also taught them valuable lessons about making healthy food choices. We extend our thanks to Chartwells for this wonderful opportunity to inspire our students to eat well and make wise decisions about their diets.
Before we sign off, we’d like to remind everyone about our ongoing reading challenge! Miss Lambert and the teaching staff are excited to see the children participating and meeting their reading goals. Reading is an essential skill that goes far beyond the classroom—it strengthens literacy, sparks imagination, and fosters a lifelong love of books. We encourage you to support your children by making reading a part of your daily routine at home. Let’s inspire them to explore new stories and enjoy the magic that books can bring!
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday and wish you all a wonderful weekend.
With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team
Let’s take a look at some of the learning that has happened this week…
Nursery this week have been tuning into sounds around the environment. The children made superhero listening ears, put them on and went for a listening walk around the school. The children identified what sounds they could hear and shared to their peers what they thought it was. Sophia said “I can hear children learning, I think it is my sister she’s in big school”.
Children in Reception this week have been exploring traditions from around the world. We researched and looked at different traditions that are celebrated. The children then took turns to talk about traditions that they have at home such as family gatherings and religious holidays. Samaya said “I celebrate Eid with my family every year and it is a very special occasion for me”. Arthur said “My family celebrates thanksgiving each which is a special tradition for me”.
Year 1 has been investigating the changes brought by Autumn during their Science lessons. The children explored the characteristics of each season and discussed the types of clothing suitable for different weather. They then completed a table identifying the weather and clothing typical for each season. A highlight was when Violet confidently shared her knowledge with Miss Roper and Year 2, proudly naming all four seasons and describing what each one looks like. Well done, Year 1!
Year 2 had an amazing trip to the cinema this week! They really showed the Rockliffe values all day and it was amazing to see just how much the children enjoyed the experience. In English, the children wrote a letter as Paddington to Aunt Lucy detailing all of the busy things he has been up to since arriving in London. The children wrote some fantastic letters and really let their creativity shine through.
In year 3 this week they have been learning about deforestation and its impact on the environment - this also led to inferring thoughts and feelings about a main character for their core text (The Wilderness War). They also used their 3 times table facts to multiply and divide in maths.
In year 4 this week, they had a great geography lesson learning about archipelagos and the Greek islands. From this they were able to discuss the meaning of a landlocked country and one with a coastline, considering how this would affect its economy. They were also able to locate Greece and the UK on a map in relation to which one was closer to the equator and how this would affect the weather in both.
Year 5 have worked really hard in maths to understand equivalent fractions. Although they found it hard at first, they have continued to challenge themselves to gain a greater understanding. The children have also begun their history unit on Anglo-Saxons and they are curious to learn more about it! We can’t wait to see where their learning journey will take them.
Year 6 have continued to challenge themselves in all areas of learning. This week, they particularly enjoyed their science lesson where they researched various features of animals and explained how they have adapted to their environments.

Please be reminded that we are a No Nut School - We have children with severe allergies to Nut products.
From September, we will have available two full time places. If you would like to show your interest please contact the office where we can give you further information.
We wanted to share with you that this morning in assembly we spoke to the children about not bringing Pokémon cards into school. Lately, they’ve been causing a bit of fuss and upset among some of the children, and it’s beginning to take away from important learning time.We know the children really enjoy them, but we’d appreciate your support in making sure they leave their cards at home from next week. This will help us keep the focus on learning and keep things calm in the classroom.
We would like to increase our resources and maybe have a Lego/Duplo station at playtime. If any of our parents have Lego or Duplo that your child no longer plays with we would appreciate any donations.
Every Tuesday morning from 8:50am, Rockliffe will be holding a Coffee morning. Please feel free to pop along and join us. Friends of Rockllife joining to start the planning for events. All welcome
