It’s been another fantastic week here at Rockliffe Manor! As the weeks go by, we’re noticing the weather cooling down and a bit more rain, but that won’t stop us from enjoying all the fun activities we have planned. With the colder days ahead, we ask that children come prepared with jumpers or cardigans and waterproof coats, so they can still enjoy their play times despite the weather. And as always, please ensure all items are clearly named to avoid any mix-ups!
This week began with an assembly focused on the **6 Principles of Nurture**, a key framework that supports emotional well-being and personal development. During Miss Nelson’s assembly, they learned about the importance of feeling safe, valued, and understood, as well as how these principles guide our school community. We encourage you to talk to your children about what they learned and how we can all continue to foster a nurturing environment both at school and at home.
It has been a busy week for our Year 6 with several visits to prospective secondary schools. These have given the children the chance to explore new learning environments and begin thinking about the next stage of their education. The children have returned with great excitement, sharing their impressions and experiences. We’re proud of how they’ve represented our school and look forward to supporting them in this important transition.
Bonjour, Hola, Ciao, Hej … How many ways can you say Hello? On Thursday Rockliffe Manor celebrated ‘European Languages Day’, a special event that highlights the beauty and diversity of languages spoken across the continent. Our celebration began with an engaging assembly led by Madame C, where children learned about the importance of multilingualism and the cultural richness it brings to Europe and the world. Madame C's presentation was both informative and inspiring, encouraging children to appreciate and explore new languages. We then had a go at learning some French ourselves before listening to a fantastic song performed by Madame C’s french club. Following this Madame C spent some time in each classroom giving all children from Year 1 - Year 6 a french taster! If you are interested in our French enrichment club, please see Madame C’s flyer below.
We’re proud of the enthusiasm shown by our children and teachers alike, and we look forward to continuing our journey of language learning throughout the year and celebrating the diverse community of Rockliffe!
This afternoon our parental engagement offer for the half term will be shared with all families. Here at Rockliffe Manor we know that a strong partnership between parents and teachers is essential for the academic and personal growth of our children. By actively involving parents in their children's learning, we can create a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters success both inside and outside the classroom. We hope you will be excited to see what we are offering for families, please keep an eye out for further communication.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we can’t wait to see you all in school on Monday.
With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team
Let’s take a look at the learning this week …
Nursery this week have been loving engaging in ice breaker activities to support them learning all of their peers names. The children had the opportunity to introduce themselves and share something special about themselves. In maths Nursery have been learning number rhymes, they particularly enjoyed learning the song ‘10 fat sausages sizzling in a pan’. The children took turns to take a sausage out the pan each time and count how many were left.
Children in Reception this week have enjoyed identifying and learning all about our Rockliffe Manor School values. We focused on the value of kindness, learning what being kind means and how being unkind makes others feel. The children shared lots of positive ideas of how they can foster this value and promote it through their actions and attitudes. Reception then created a song about kindness to promote the value to others, using the melody Frere Jacques.
Year 1 has had a great week! In English, the children imagined they had been transported into space, they used their senses to describe what they encountered on their journey. Year 1 then used all of this vocabulary to generate noun phrases! The class also had a great PE lesson with Mr O’Regan where they played team building games and had lots of fun.
Year 2 has been busy this week in Art looking at their focus artist; Jim Dine. The children used his art as inspiration to practise their shading techniques and started to have a go at outlining the negative space of their tool first. In English, the children have wowed Miss Roper! The class looked at how Izzy Gizmo sets herself goals and thought about what goals they would like to set for themselves.
Year 3 this week had an amazing Art lesson inspired by the Stone Age. The children used natural dyes to create a print onto pieces of cloth. They used tea, mud and coffee to create their tie-dye techniques. They are so excited to then build on these further by adding charcoal drawings in their next lesson.
In year 4’s Science learning, they have been learning about states of matter and were very surprised when their predictions were incorrect about CO2 gas making a liquid weigh more. Through a practical investigation, the children learned that even gas is made of matter and therefore has its own weight.
Year 5 have been enjoying their swimming lessons. Miss Lambert said that the children have shown great attitudes and behaviour at the swimming pool and that she was very proud of them. Well done to Miss Lambert for setting high expectations for everyone in her class.
Year 6 really enjoyed their English lesson this week where they got to infer the character's emotions. The children did a fantastic job at using evidence from the text to justify their choice. The children have also been enjoying their science lessons learning about the different classifications of living things.

From September, we will have available two full time places. If you would like to show your interest please contact the office where we can give you further information.
We wanted to share with you that this morning in assembly we spoke to the children about not bringing Pokémon cards into school. Lately, they’ve been causing a bit of fuss and upset among some of the children, and it’s beginning to take away from important learning time.We know the children really enjoy them, but we’d appreciate your support in making sure they leave their cards at home from next week. This will help us keep the focus on learning and keep things calm in the classroom.
We would like to increase our resources and maybe have a Lego/Duplo station at playtime. If any of our parents have Lego or Duplo that your child no longer plays with we would appreciate any donations.
Every Tuesday morning from 8:50am, Rockliffe will be holding a Coffee morning in the Music Room. Please feel free to pop along and join us. Friends of Rockllife joining to start the planning for events. All welcome
