It has been a fantastic week here at Rockliffe Manor. The classrooms have been alive with awe and wonder as the children are delving into their learning across the curriculum. I have had the pleasure to see many wonderful moments this week from Year 4 becoming scientists and considering the impact of a variety of materials on an ice cube to Year 2 becoming historians as they delved deep into the lives of two Suffragettes; Princess Sophia Duleep Singh and Sarah Parker Redmond. Not to mention Year 6 this week, who have been really exploring new vocabulary to uplevel their learning, and the partner talk as they develop their knowledge of the appropriate contexts for words. It has been so impressive to see, with children confidently experimenting with language and supporting one another in choosing just the right words.
We began the week by discovering the power of play in our assembly, discussing how it helps us grow, stay active, build friendships, and develop teamwork skills. Together, we explored the Rockliffe Manor Playtime Promise, reminding ourselves to play kindly, share, follow rules, use kind words, look after equipment, and help others.
Whilst on the theme of assemblies, on Thursday Miss White hosted our annual online safety assembly to help ensure that our children at Rockliffe Manor know what to do online to keep themselves and others safe. The children recapped the SMART rules we always need to follow; S - safe, M - meeting, A - accepting, R - reliable and T - tell. These rules help us to remain safe on the internet. Miss White also spoke about age restrictions on apps and quizzed the children on how old they think they need to be to have accounts such as Youtube or TikTok. Please continue to speak to your child about keeping safe online as well as familiarising yourself with app age restrictions as this is an increasingly important part of all of our lives.
Following on from our letter shared today, next week we will open our bookings for our Autumn Parents Evening, which will take place on Wednesday 15th October and Thursday 16th October, we hope you all have access to Arbor and are able to book on. We look forward to welcoming families into school. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to meet with teachers, discuss their child's progress, and gain insights into what they are learning in the classroom. We encourage all parents to attend, as your involvement is crucial in supporting your child's educational journey. We are excited to share their achievements and to collaborate with you in ensuring our pupil’s continued success!
Before we wish you well, we would like to remind families about uniform expectations. While children are not expected to wear Rockliffe Manor branded uniform, children should only be wearing grey trousers, skirts or shorts, white tops and navy cardigans or jumpers. Items such as hoodies are not allowed and shoes should be black. Uniform is an important part of school; it not only fosters a sense of equality and pride but also a sense of belonging to Rockliffe Manor. This also relates to our PE kits, Navy bottoms and plain white t-shirts only should be worn. No football shirts/ kits, or clothing with large logos should be worn during PE lessons. Ensuring that all children are in the correct uniform helps maintain a focused learning environment and encourages a sense of unity among students. We appreciate your support in upholding these expectations and helping our children represent Rockliffe Manor with pride.
Thank you for your continued cooperation, and we hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team
Learning this week
It has been another wonderful week of learning across the school.
Nursery
Our Nursery children have continued to get to know one another through fun games and songs. During a carpet session, the Gruffalo teddy was passed around, giving the children the chance to practise each other’s names. It was lovely to see how quickly they are learning and how kindly they reminded friends when needed.
Reception
This week the children have showcased their amazing phonics skills to their families in our first parent stay and learn at Rockliffe. Sofia, Rayina and Arlia were independently segmenting and blending the words very well. The children also showed all of their phonic skills in the provision and have been applying it across the classroom. Salem has been taking the learnt grapheme cards and matching them to pictures and objects around the classroom!
Year 1
Year 1 have been budding artists, sketching in the style of Alexis Deacon and Colin Ruffell. The children compared the two, with Nicholas sharing that he preferred Colin Ruffell’s work because “it looks cool” and the colours were “bright with a rainbow.” In PE, the class has been showing fantastic sportsmanship, learning the importance of taking part, trying their best, and celebrating each other’s achievements.
Year 2
In English, Year 2 has been exploring emotions through their core text and the Zones of Regulation. They created “show, not tell” sentences, with Iman writing: “The bird sat there with tears rolling down its cheeks while he watched the other birds fly by.” The children also wrote diary entries in character as Izzy Gizmo, putting themselves in her shoes brilliantly.
Year 3
Year 3 have been working hard on using inverted commas to show speech in their writing, applying this skill to their core text The Hunter. Miss White was especially proud of their determination, and Celine was eager to share her success. In French, the children have begun introducing themselves and asking others their names – très bien!
Year 4
Science has been full of excitement in Year 4! The children investigated the best materials for insulating heat by wrapping ice cubes in different materials. Before testing, they made predictions. Henry explained, “Salt will make the ice cube melt quicker because they put salt on the roads when it’s icy.” A wonderful example of linking scientific ideas to real-life experiences.
Year 5
In English, Year 5 have been developing their writing by exploring the differences between simple, compound, and complex sentences. In RE, the children showed great curiosity while learning about the Christian belief in the Trinity.
Year 6
Year 6 have been refining their writing through careful editing and reflection. By revisiting their first drafts, they were able to uplevel vocabulary, improve sentence structures, and make excellent use of figurative language. This process has really helped them to polish their work to a high standard.

Community Information
Oxleas are concerned about the very low return of consent forms received to date, they have asked us to reach out again to all parents to promote the e-consent link or you need further resources please get in contact.
The seasonal flu vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect pupils from the flu virus. Vaccinating children not only protects their own health and reduces school absences but also helps to prevent the spread of the virus to family members and the wider community, including those who may be more vulnerable.
To ensure all pupils who wish to be vaccinated have the opportunity, we kindly ask that you re-share the e-consent link with parents and carers through all your usual communication channels (e.g., email, newsletters, school app). The e-consent portal will close at 4pm on 20/09/2025, which is three days before our visit. After this date, we will send you a list of the pupils who have consented to the vaccination.
