The crisp autumn air has arrived, and there’s a buzz of excitement in the air. The start of a new season always brings a fresh sense of energy, and here at Rockliffe Manor, the first days of the term have been nothing short of inspiring. We’re thrilled to see our children returning with bright smiles, ready for new challenges and opportunities. We hope your summer was filled with joy, relaxation, and moments of connection with family and friends, and we can't wait to embark on another year of learning and growth together.
One of the most wonderful parts of starting a new school year is seeing how much our children have grown, not just physically, but in their confidence and maturity. This morning, we held our much-anticipated celebration assembly, recognising children for their exceptional achievements, hard work, and contributions. These moments are more than just a time to applaud individual success—they’re essential for building a thriving, motivated school community. Celebrations like this help foster a sense of belonging and pride within our school. Whether it’s academic achievements, personal growth, or acts of kindness, these milestones reflect the collective spirit of our community—one where every student’s effort is valued and appreciated.
We encourage you to talk to your children about what it means to celebrate growth, not just success. It’s through recognising progress, however small, that we can inspire a love for learning and resilience in the face of challenges.
This September has seen us welcome some new families to our Rockliffe Manor community too, whether in Nursery, Reception or further up the school, we hope our new children and families feel the warmth of the Rockliffe Manor family.
Next week, we wish to remind you of the RHE parent consultation that is taking place on Monday 16th September in the music room at 9am. Following the letter that was sent out this week, we welcome you to give feedback on the current policy that is currently out for consultation.
We will also be holding our secondary school information session on Wednesday, 18th September. This session is for parents of children currently in Year 6 and will provide important details about the application process, including key dates and deadlines.
As we transition into the autumn season, we look forward to the vibrant changes ahead and the many opportunities for learning and growth they will bring. To ensure your children can fully embrace these experiences, please remember to send them in each day with a waterproof coat, so that a little rain won’t stand in the way of their adventures.
At Rockliffe Manor we love to share the exciting learning which is happening within our classrooms, we regularly use Twitter (X) to share learning. Please follow us if you don’t already. You can find us using the twitter handle @RockliffeManor.
We look forward to seeing everyone back to school next week and hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team
Let’s take a look at the learning that has happened this week…
Nursery have enjoyed settling into their new learning environment, building relationships with their adults and getting to know their peers. The children have been becoming more familiar with the nursery routines and learning how to access the provision in the classroom. Nursery have particularly enjoyed going on listening walks around the school as they tune into sounds and begin their Little Wandle Phonics journey.
Children in Reception this week have had an amazing start to the new term, the children have been busy exploring the environment and getting to know each other through our circle time activities. The children focused on themselves and what makes them unique during our literacy learning. The children then produced some amazing self portraits, using mirrors to identify all their features that needed to be included.
What a great start to the year it has been for Year 1! They have settled in amazingly well and are enjoying getting to know their new class adults. It was lovely to see some amazing Art learning based on primary and secondary colours. The children were having fun and using technical language to describe what they were doing. At the beginning of the week they were shocked to find a spaceship had crashed into their classroom! Darby said that the spaceship came with lots of cool things.
Year 2 has been busy this week in all of their learning! At the beginning of the week, the children built parachutes to save an injured bird that was on our roof, hooking them into their new core text; Izzy Gizmo. The children have been immersed in their core text and loved creating a story map to retell the story. In maths the children have been looking at place value and have been using dienes to support their partitioning.
In year 3 this week, they have been settling really well and have enjoyed an amazing science lesson on the characteristics of rocks. They were the first class to have their library visit this week which was very successful and the children thoroughly enjoyed selecting a new book for the term, despite the sudden downpour on their way back to school.
In year 4, they have been thoroughly enjoying their new core text and all things Ancient Greek. To embed the learning, they used role play to retell the story of Odysseus and the Cyclops before writing always, sometimes, never statements regarding the morals that can be learned from this classic myth.
Year 5 have settled in very well in their new classroom environment and they have impressed Miss Lambert with their reading strategy skills. What has impressed us the most is the children’s kindness and sense of community in the classroom as they welcomed a new peer.
In Year 6 this week, the children have thoroughly enjoyed reading the first 3 chapters of their core text Gorilla Dawn. All the children are extremely engaged and hooked into the storyline and how it’s developing throughout. TJ said this book is very interesting because it has “mystery and murder in it.” In Geography, the children have started learning about the different layers of rainforests and how they support life.
