As we come to the end of our second full week of this half term, it has been both a busy and rewarding time here at Rockliffe Manor.
We began the week with a whole-school assembly on the Global Goals, which sit at the heart of our rich and vibrant curriculum. The children were introduced to six global themes: identity and diversity, sustainable development, social equity and justice, power and governance, human rights, and peace and conflict. Pupils were encouraged to see themselves as agents of change and to reflect on what it means to be a global citizen. It was inspiring to see them making thoughtful links to their previous learning, recognising how their understanding and actions have developed over time.
Later in the week, Miss Lambert led a wonderful assembly on the love of reading. She spoke about Roald Dahl Day, sharing why he is such an important literary figure and how his stories continue to inspire readers of all ages. During the assembly, she also launched the applications for Reading Ambassadors, an exciting role where children will take responsibility for looking after the reading nook. Applications are now open to pupils in Years 3–6, and these will be coming home today. We are looking forward to receiving lots of enthusiastic applications!
Miss Lambert also introduced the Reading Challenge, which was mentioned during our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions. The bronze award will be sent home this week, and she is eager to hand out certificates to those who complete it.
Lastly, we are celebrating National Recognition at Rockliffe Manor! We are absolutely delighted to share some very exciting news with our community. Rockliffe Manor has been recognised nationally in the Summer 2025 TEP census, placing us in the top 5–10% of schools across the country. We are proud to have been awarded multiple recognition badges, celebrating: Our pupils’ determination, effort, enjoyment, and inclusion. The dedication and wellbeing of our staff and the strength of our leadership
These awards shine a light on what makes Rockliffe so special: pupils who love learning and always give their very best, staff who are committed, empowered, and valued, and a school culture rooted in equity, collaboration, and care. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and deeply grateful to our families for their ongoing support. Together, we make Rockliffe Manor a thriving and joyful community.
We wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday.
With very best wishes,
Mrs. Cook and the Rockliffe Manor Team
Learning this week
Let’s take a look at some of the learning this week …
In Nursery this week, the children have been welcoming new friends to the class and Rockliffe community! During their carpet sessions, the class have been learning carpet rules and are beginning to be role models to each other by modelling how to do this. The children have been regularly reminding each other not to bring toys to the carpet. They have also been showing kindness and sharing toys through collaboration in the provision. Great job Nursery!
This week, in Reception the children were introduced to zones of regulation. It was great to see the children so engaged in their carpet session, showing fantastic attention and listening skills. Sofia said she was in the green zone because she felt ‘joy’ while William shared that he was feeling energetic like the purple minion which Mr Harracksingh supported in identifying it being a yellow zone emotion.
And in year 1 the children were introduced to their first core text but before that, they couldn’t believe what the cameras had caught in the classroom over the weekend! A spaceship had landed and whatever it was had left foot print marks behind. Frankie told her mum all about it and said that ‘it was right by my table’ and Molly was doing some investigating in the classroom when she found a black mark on the floor which she thinks Mr Ricky had forgotten to clean. It was great to hear the predictions they made and then they were referring back to the event once they read through the story!
This week, Year 2 have been working hard on developing their place value knowledge, focusing on identifying the tens and ones in two-digit numbers. In English, the children have enjoyed exploring their new core text. Through the story, they have begun to reflect on the importance of having a growth mindset—just as Grandpa encourages Izzy to do.
Year 3 have had a busy and exciting week diving into their new core text, The Hunter. The children have been recalling fascinating facts about elephants and writing about what they have learned, including how elephants behave within their herds. Daisy-Mae was particularly proud to share her knowledge, remembering that elephants are mammals and that they love to eat plenty of food!
Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed their maths lessons this week, representing numbers to 10,000 using a variety of concrete and pictorial methods. Eni showed great determination in developing his understanding of place value, and it was wonderful to see how pleased he was when it ‘clicked’. In English, Ronnie impressed everyone with his ability to infer the characters’ feelings and emotions, carefully using evidence from the text to support his ideas.
In Year 5, the children have been reflecting on how Jesus showed his humanity in their RE lessons. They explored different stories, including that of Judas, who betrayed Jesus. Despite this, Jesus showed kindness and forgiveness. The children thought deeply about why Jesus would act in this way, concluding that if he was teaching others about forgiveness, he too had to demonstrate those qualities in his own actions.
Year 6 have continued to impress with their positive start to the term. The children arrive each morning ready to begin their early-morning work with great enthusiasm. This week, Elaina wrote a fantastic setting description of the rainforest, making excellent use of figurative language and ambitious vocabulary to engage her reader. Miss Lambert was very impressed and commented on how much she enjoys reading the children’s writing.

Community Information
Oxleas are concerned about the very low return of consent forms received to date, they have asked us to reach out again to all parents to promote the e-consent link or you need further resources please get in contact.
The seasonal flu vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect pupils from the flu virus. Vaccinating children not only protects their own health and reduces school absences but also helps to prevent the spread of the virus to family members and the wider community, including those who may be more vulnerable.
To ensure all pupils who wish to be vaccinated have the opportunity, we kindly ask that you re-share the e-consent link with parents and carers through all your usual communication channels (e.g., email, newsletters, school app). The e-consent portal will close at 4pm on 20/09/2025, which is three days before our visit. After this date, we will send you a list of the pupils who have consented to the vaccination.
