And so, we have reached the end of our Autumn 2 term, and what a term it has been! From exciting classroom projects to festive celebrations, the past few weeks have been filled with learning, growth, and community spirit. We’ve watched our children dive deep into their learning, embrace challenges, and work together to achieve fantastic outcomes.
A few highlights from the term include the children’s hard work on their global project outcomes. Year 2 has been preparing a "Welcome to Rockliffe Manor" book, highlighting kindness within the school to help new starters feel at home. Year 4 has been creating Zones of Regulation posters to promote mindfulness throughout the school as part of their global theme work. Year 3 has been gearing up for their global project on sustainable development, with plans to clean up litter in the local community, supported by the council and parents. Their upcoming litter-picking event will bring their learning to life as they care for the local environment.
As we reflect on this term, we want to take a moment to thank you, our parents and carers, for your continued support and engagement. Your partnership is truly invaluable and plays a key role in helping our school thrive.
The final festive events happened this week, starting with our KS1 Nativity. The Year 2 children told the story of five curious children at a bustling Christmas market, alive with the sounds of carol singers and cheerful market sellers. They meet a mysterious stallholder who offers them a worn Christmas jigsaw, asking only that they complete it on Christmas Eve. As the children piece it together with the guidance of a very special visitor, the Christmas story unfolds, revealing all the beloved nativity characters. This heartfelt tale was beautifully complemented by the enchanting voices of Reception and Year 1, whose singing brought warmth and magic to the performance. The combination of storytelling, music, and the children's joy made for an unforgettable and moving celebration of the season.
On Wednesday we had our youngest performers hosting our Christmas nursery sing along. Parents, children, and staff joined together to sing some of the class's favourite Christmas songs, creating a heartwarming atmosphere. A huge well done to our Nursery class for singing with such enthusiasm—it was truly a performance to remember!
On Thursday afternoon, the classrooms were brimming with excitement as the children immersed themselves in the magic of their winter party celebrations. The cheerful energy was infectious, with giggles and chatter creating a warm, festive buzz. A big thank you to our wonderful parents for their thoughtful contributions of delicious treats, which turned the occasion into a spectacular seasonal banquet! The festivities soared to new heights when lively music filled the rooms, sparking creative dance moves that had everyone grinning from ear to ear. It was a heartwarming afternoon of joy, laughter, and togetherness—moments that will be fondly remembered by all.
In today’s final celebration assembly of the year, the children were invited to reflect on something they are most proud of from this half term. The room buzzed with excitement as they eagerly shared their successes and accomplishments. Following this, we turned our focus to 2025, considering not only the goals we’d like to set but also the steps we can take to make them a reality. While there’s much to look forward to in the new year, we’re also taking a moment to savour the present and all that we’ve achieved together.
On that note, we wish you all a peaceful and joyful break with your loved ones. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 6th January.
With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team
Let’s take a look at some of the learning that has happened this week…
This week, Nursery has been full of creativity! The children have been busy making cards and pictures for their friends and families, practicing their mark-making skills around the learning environment. Many of them worked hard on writing some or all the letters in their name, using name cards as guides. The highlight of the week was the magical winter concert, where the children performed beautifully for their families. The EYFS team is so proud of all their efforts—well done, Nursery!
In Reception this week, the children have been exploring the part-whole model during their maths sessions. Using everyday objects from around the learning environment, they practiced splitting amounts into two parts and then combining them again to find the whole. They also learned new words like "more than" and "less than" to compare quantities. It was wonderful to see how they applied what they’d learned during playtime in the maths area. Reception had such a fun and productive week!
Year 1 has been busy writing beautiful setting descriptions of the Dominican Republic in their English lessons. They used phrases like "blue, glistening ocean," "clouds as fluffy as teddies," and "ginormous blanket bats" to bring their work to life. The children also celebrated an amazing class party with Year 2, full of laughter, dancing, and games—a perfect way to end the term!
Year 2 impressed everyone with their fantastic acting skills during the KS1 and Reception nativity on Tuesday! Their enthusiasm and confidence were a joy to watch. In the classroom, the children have been working on their Global Outcome project, thinking about what makes Rockliffe Manor special. They explored how kindness is shown within the school and are preparing a “Welcome to Rockliffe Manor” book to help new starters feel at home.
This week, Year 3 has been preparing for their Global Outcome project. Miss White has coordinated with the council to provide litter pickers, high-vis jackets, and gloves. Along with as many parents as possible, the children will venture into the local community to clean up litter. This project supports their global theme of sustainable development and demonstrates the importance of caring for the community.
Year 4 has been investigating materials in science to find out whether they conduct or insulate electricity. They’ve also created impressive Zones of Regulation posters using Canva as part of their Global Theme final outcome. The children have been working hard and showing great enthusiasm for their projects!
In Year 5, the children explored equivalent fractions using visual tools like fraction bars and number lines to compare and simplify fractions. They practiced solving real-world problems, explaining their reasoning, and justifying their answers. This hands-on learning has helped them gain a solid understanding of fractions!
Year 6 learned about fossils this week, including body fossils, trace fossils, and mold and cast fossils. They explored how these fossils provide insights into prehistoric organisms and their environments. In geography, they concluded their study of the Amazon Rainforest, examining its critical role in the planet’s ecosystem and discussing the impact of ethical and unethical business practices on indigenous communities and global sustainability.
We are so proud of the incredible learning and accomplishments across all year groups this week!

Lately, they’ve been causing a bit of fuss and upset among some of the children, and it’s beginning to take away from important learning time.We know the children really enjoy them, but we’d appreciate your support in making sure they leave their cards at home from next week. This will help us keep the focus on learning and keep things calm in the classroom.
We would like to increase our resources and maybe have a Lego/Duplo station at playtime. If any of our parents have Lego or Duplo that your child no longer plays with we would appreciate any donations.
