What a brilliant start to the term! The children have returned full of enthusiasm and ready to embrace the final part of the school year. As we begin to look back on the journey so far, the children have been engaging in meaningful reflection, thinking about everything they’ve learned this year, celebrating their proudest moments, recognising where they’ve made the most progress and considering the challenges that helped them grow. These reflections have given them a real sense of achievement and ownership of their learning. We’re sure you’ll enjoy reading their thoughts just as much as we have, in their final end of year report reflections!
We started the week with our assembly introducing our value for this half term: Individuality. We began by asking the children to imagine how strange and challenging it would be if we all looked exactly the same or liked the identical things. Thankfully, the world is full of variety! We explored how uniqueness is woven into the very fabric of nature, from the distinct spot patterns wildlife experts use to track individual cheetahs, to the millions of completely unique geometric structures found in individual snowflakes. The children were reminded that they carry this same magic within themselves, right down to their own unique fingerprints. We ended with a moment of quiet reflection, encouraging the children to celebrate what makes them special and to embrace their own authenticity, because, just like beautiful butterflies, our differences are what make our school community so vibrant and wonderful.
Throughout the coming weeks, we will continue to build on this by diving into inspiring, connected themes like pride, humanity, open-mindedness, and confidence. This final term offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all the successes of this academic year while preparing for the journeys ahead. Whether it’s our youngest children getting ready to step up into their next classrooms or our Year 6 cohort preparing for the big leap to secondary school, change is in the air!
That sense of individuality will be on full display next week as we begin our much-anticipated Arts Fortnight, a joyful celebration of creativity and self-expression across the school. With this year's theme being Art in Bloom, we are delighted to see what our children's imagination has in store for us. It promises to be a vibrant and inspiring two weeks, culminating in displays that will transform our corridors and classrooms into stunning galleries. We can’t wait to watch this creativity come to life! To follow along with the artistic process, be sure to check in on our X (Twitter) page.
Alongside our creative pursuits, next week will also be assessment week for children in Years 2 to 5. These assessments are designed simply to support teachers in understanding where the children are currently at in their learning journey. It is important to remember that these tests only measure a snapshot of academic progress; at Rockliffe Manor, we continually celebrate the whole child, including their creativity, collaboration, kindness and effort.
We are looking forward to a fantastic, busy term ahead filled with opportunities for the children to let their unique selves shine. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming assessments, please do speak directly to your child's teacher.
Wishing you all a very lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday.
With very best wishes, Mrs Cook and the Rockliffe Manor team

Let’s have a look at some of the learning from this week …
The Nursery children had a wonderful week checking in on their tadpoles after the half term break, eagerly observing how much they had grown before releasing them into the pond. They loved noticing the differences between the froglets, with one particularly long-tailed creature sparking a fun debate about whether it might actually be a lizard! The children also spent time reflecting on their nursery year, with many expressing how much they have thoroughly enjoyed every single activity. Alongside these reflections, the class has started a new topic on growing, with a specific focus on things we can eat. It has been fantastic hearing them name all the different fruits and vegetables they already love or are excited to try.
In Reception, the children have been thoroughly enjoying looking back at their journey from the very start of the school year. During their composition lessons, they identified key moments from their time at Rockliffe and spoke so positively about their achievements and favourite memories. It was truly heartening to see them celebrate their first year of school with such confidence. Meanwhile, in maths, the children were introduced to the concept of sharing. They had a great time practicing sharing different amounts of food between two groups, confidently identifying whether a share was fair or unfair, and checking if both groups had an equal amount.
Year 1 have also been reflecting on their school year, sharing their proudest successes, their challenges and some brilliant next steps they have set for themselves. It was wonderful to hear the children speak so maturely about their progress. For instance, some shared how proud they are that their writing improves every time they practice, while others celebrated how much their reading and writing has progressed after learning English this year. Looking ahead, many are already motivated to keep working hard on their handwriting and letter formation as they move into the next school year.
In Year 2, the children have been incredibly reflective as they wrote their personal thoughts for their end-of-year reports. They summed up their learning journey beautifully, sharing everything from their immense pride at mastering complex new science vocabulary to celebrating how they overcame the challenge of learning to tell the time. Speaking of time, our mathematicians have now successfully wrapped up that particular unit and are full of enthusiasm as they begin their next focus on statistics.
Year 3 have also been looking back on their journeys this week, writing some incredibly thoughtful report reflections that celebrate their favorite milestones and how much they have grown. In maths, the children launched into their new topic on time, working hard to master the calendar by distinguishing between days, months, and years. Over in PE, the class was of energy as the children enjoyed a fantastic lesson with Mr. O'Reagan, demonstrating brilliant teamwork as they worked together to collect cones.
Year 4 have shown great determination as they returned for the start of the new half term, throwing themselves straight into their final preparations for the Multiplication Tables Check. Alongside their hard work, they loved reminiscing about their favorite topics and experiments from the past year. Their history learning continues to spark a sense of wonder, and the children have been making fantastic connections through their reading. They were particularly shocked to discover that historical theatergoers once paid just a penny to stand and watch a play, which led to a fascinating discussion about what that entry fee would look like in today’s currency.
Year 5 have had a very positive start to the final half term of the year. The children have written some exceptionally thoughtful reflections for their school reports, and it has been lovely to read about the achievements they are most proud of, as well as the unique challenges they have successfully encountered and overcome throughout the year. In maths, the class began a new topic on decimals, confidently using a range of mental and written strategies to add and subtract while demonstrating a solid understanding of place value.
Year 6 have kicked off their week with fantastic energy and enthusiasm. In science, they thoroughly enjoyed exploring how light enables us to see objects, which included a fascinating look at the structure of the eye and the specific role each part plays. In addition to their academic work, the children have officially started practicing for their highly anticipated end-of-year performance. They are taking their roles very seriously, and their singing already sounds absolutely amazing.
